X800 Pro or 9800 Pro to replace 9700 Pro?

Would an XP 2100+ be a bottleneck for an X800 Pro in games like BF2 (1152x864)? I can get a 9800 Pro for about half the price but if I'd see a noticeable improvement with the X800 I'll go with that.

Thanks!

you wont see much from the 9700 to 9800, i wouldnt even consider it since its not much of an upgrade

if you can find a cheap X800 or 6800 then go for that.

A lot of people will probably be wanting to get rid of their 68xx and X8xx cards after the X1950Pro becomes more readily available (me included). Keep an eye on FS/FT.

9700 to 9800 is completely worthless, considering how much these older cards retail for.

Sorry, forgot to mention my 9700 Pro is dying fast. Started artifacting in 3D 2 weeks ago, now it's doing it in 2D (desktop) as well. That's the only reason I'm even considering a 9800 ... it's $50 vs $100 (roughly) for the X800, and I'm trying to save money for a new build in early '07.

Thanks for the replies.

look in hot deals ... i think the x800 is a lot cheaper. ;)

ANYway, if you liked your 9700p, the 9800p will be 10% faster .... if that will 'hold' you a few months ... save the few bucks ... if not the x800p is nearly twice as fast.

I wouldn't worry about the 9800 pro, most 9700 pro's(Both my Gigabyte's could easily) could overtake a stock 9800 pro when overclocked anyway.

go for the X800...it's much quicker.

The X800 is a generation higher, If you get a Vivo model, it can be unlocked to 16 pipes as opposed to the standard 12 on the pro cards.

so, in short.. X800 Pro > 9800 in terms of an upgrade. Not even close.

Thanks for the help guys. I ended up finding a 6600GT 256MB locally for real cheap and jumped on it considering I can barely read text now. Probably isn't as fast as an X800 series but at least I can see what I'm doing now.

Thanks again, happy holidays :)
