Not sure what mod your talking about. I just took a look on X-bits lab (the guys who brought me the 9500/9700 I'm using today) and they say that from what they can tell there's no way to do it. ATI has taken steps to see that it doesn't happen again.

Do you think it's possible to use one of hte 10% off coupons with the x800 sale price?

10% Off Memorial Day coupon is not good for video cards.

Fine print under "Computer Products" on the coupons says: Computer cables, surge protectors, mobile computer accessories, mice, keyboards, computer software, PC cameras, PC gaming controllers, computer speakers, black digital media, DVD-RW drives, flash and external hard drives, computer networking products, paper, ink cartridges, printers $149 and up, scanners $99 and up, copiers, flash memory.

That would have been a Memorial Day sale to remember.

Plus you are forgetting the fact that the chip itself was kicked down to Pro speed due to it not passing at XT speed.

It's a crap shoot @ best and if ATI is keenly aware of OC kiddies, I'm sure they'll make sure non of this stuff happens. Now tell me this, DO you think you know more about ATI cards than the people who actually designed and made them cards? hmmm?

Not necessarily. Of course it's not guaranteed to mod in case some pipelines did fail, but ATI also has to provide enough x800 Pros to fill demand. If anything, the early x800 Pros would be the most likely to successfully mod. Plus, the speed rating is often a little conservative because the card has to run reliably in pretty much a (reasonable) worst case scenario like a 50C closed case.

But I agree with others earlier in this thread: that's a huge risk on such an expensive card. I wouldn't do it, even if I knew it would work.

The cards are in stock at my local store, but the in-store prices don't match the website prices. They are charging full price. I went in to try to get a 9800 pro with some store credit I have, but it was still $249.99. Oh well, I refuse to pay that much, even with store credit.

Not a bad price. But I agree with you. No way I try to mod a $350 card. To much money at risk.

okay i read the whole thread over at ocuk..

only a couple of people have been able to get the extra 4 pipelines enabled.

and it's not a softmod or as easy as a bios flash...

it requires you to scrape away at some contact points on the actual gpu....

THIS IS A HARD MOD!!!

the good thing is if it fails, your card will still be detected as a x800pro with 12 pipelines...

in the end, this mod is worth risking because the hard mod will not kill your card...

everyone that's tried it over at ocuk that have failed still have cards that work...

Is it worth voiding your warranty to try out the mod? I'm pretty sure that ATI won't replace your card if it dies and there's a huge scratch between those two points on your GPU. ;)

I'm so glad I got overnight shipping. I got an email yesterday (friday) saying that my x800 pro shipped from BB and since it is the weekend I won't get the package until monday.

GRRR. Waste my friggin money. Between this and the fact I got hit up for tax on the card. Bah

BB typically doesnt price match their website and for that matter they dont even match another best buy location that is close to them! i had an issue where i tried to pricematch with another BB location that was 10 miles away and they refused. their pricematching policy is a joke and not worth the time! if you try to pricematch (for in store matching) and they dont honor it, i suggest trying the better business bureau and BB will then honor it!
