X800 or 6600GT

Hello,

I'm building a computer for my brother and I wanted to know if the X800 is a better performer than the 6600GT. I have always been a NVIDIA fan, but NewEgg has a special for an MSI X800 for $109.00 AR. I noticed the X800 is 256bit with 12 pixelpipelines. My brother mostly plays COD2, SWBFII, HL2, CS-Source and BFII. His budget on a video card is not to spend more than $150.00. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Anandtech had an article comparing the two, the X800 performs better in all games, except openGL ones like Doom 3....didn't ATI's new drivers give an OpenGL performance increase?

ya mad the 6600gt doesnt even come close , l owned a 6600gt , and now its GONE and goodriddens , the x800 totally pwns it, the x800 pro pwns it, the xt pwns it and me xtpe smashes it, the 6600 range in my opinion was NOT a great card, and would stuff up oftern , the x800 range has been awsome, lve just gone over to the nvidia 7800 range now and there good too.

I noticed that the MSI X800 uses DDR2 instead of GDDR3 that other manufacturer uses for same model. Will there be much of a performace difference?

at the same mhz? shouldn't be. could affect overclockability though.

GDDR2 is having a bit of a glut right now so prices are cheap, iirc.

There was a massive increase in OpenGL performance (up by 35% in Doom3 and Quake 4 as I remember) for the X1800XT, but not so much for the X1800XL and even less for the remaining ATI cards.
