inquirer says that the x800 are out in "significant quantities".
newegg has a GDDR3 version for 450 dollars. (dual DVI and Rage theater chip)

Oh Geez what a gouge price that is. The x800 is piss slower than even a X800pro. It has 4 less pipes for a total of 8 and 200MHz slower than the memory on the X800pro. For 450.00, I would hope I would be looking at an advertisement for a X850XTPE. Or a 6800U.

Boy oh boy, these vendors really must enjoy stupid people.

Radeon X850 XT Platinum Edition (R480): 16 Pipes, 540 MHz Core, 1.18 GHz Memory, $549
Radeon X850 XT (R480): 16 Pipes, 520 MHz Core, 1.08 GHz Memory, $499
Radeon X850 Pro (R480): 12 Pipes, 520 MHz Core, 1.08 GHz Memory, $399
The new Radeon X800 models (PCIe):

Radeon X800 XL (R430), 16 Pipes, 256 MB, 400 MHz Core, 1 GHz Memory, $349
Radeon X800 (R430), 12 Pipes, 128MB, 400 MHz Core, 700 MHz Memory, $249
PCIe X800 models already introduced (sales of which continue for the time being):

Radeon X800 XT PE (R423): 16 Pipes, 256 MB, 520 MHz Core, 1.2 GHz Memory
Radeon X800 XT (R423) : 16 Pipes, 256 MB, 500 MHz Core, 1 GHz Memory
Radeon X800 Pro (R423) : 12 Pipes, 256 MB, 475 MHz Core, 950 MHz Memory
Radeon X800 SE (R423) : 8 Pipes, 128/256 MB, 425 MHz Core, 800 MHz Memory

My mistake about the 8 pipes. Got it confused with a X800SE.
The X800 still will be slower than a X800pro however. The X800XL at 16 pipes and 1000MHz GDDR3 at 349.00 would be where my money is going. Offers 6800GT performance for about 30.00 less.

ATI changed the MSRP of the X800 vanilla and the XL. X800 is now $200 and X800XL is $300.

As soon as the X800 XL I can finally afford a good ATI card
Or you could get a GeForce 6800GT for less that has bean available for more than half a year. Yeah, yeah, I know the MSRP is less, but as you can see newegg is charging more for the X800 (vanilla) than they are for a 6800GT, which will crush that little radeon.

The way current availability is going and price they are asking for the X800, there is no telling how much they will ask for an XL. With the price gouging on PCIe cards going on, it almost makes more sense to get an AGP video card and mobo, with the intention of replacing both when the next gen PCIe cards come out. What's a good AGP mobo cost? A little over $100... That X800 is over gouged $200-250! Do the math.

No disrespect intended to fellow AT'ers, but what is so exciting about overpriced, hardly available video cards?

This means the X800XL will initially come in around $500, and may stay there for a few months. The X850XT PE will be a nosebleeder, $650 minimum to over $1000 if demand is high. Low supply will be a certainty of course.

Yep, that's why I say that it actually makes sense to still buy AGP for the high end. Even if you have to replace the mobo next generation, you will probably still come out ahead cashwise. A nice socket 939 with an AGP slot would be the way to go since you can re-use the proc in a future nForce4 board. Previously, my position had been that AGP/socket 939 was a bad bet, since you would be forced to upgrade the mobo and still pay the premium for socket 939 as opposed to AGP/socket 754, but the high cost of higher end PCIe video cards has pretty much made the cost of the mobo at least equal if not less. The same is true for Intel... You could get a decently priced i865 mobo that supports LGA775 and do the same thing. But if you're bulding a new gamer, why would you buy Intel right now?

...obvioulsy, this is not the case for mid to low end PCIe cards. In this segment of the market, the 6600/6200 and X600/X300 PCIe cards are reasonably enough priced and pretty available that it makes sense to hop on the PCIe bandwagon.

Edit: and yes, I know there are exceptions to this... I am aware that chumbo.com was selling PCIe 6800GT's for MSRP, but for the most part PCIe (especially ATi) cards are extremely overpriced. Kinda ironnic considering the only real benefit of going to PCIe at the moment is the potential to use SLI, which ATi doesn't even have.

Ok, I'll stop with the ATi ripping... They really are nice cards and I know that, I just wish poor RadeonGuy could get hold of one. :)

Once again some smucks like to rip ATi for the price gouging of their cards. Its a good thing NV's PCI-E cards are widely avail at MSRP.

Oh, wait...

They will be retail at a good price soon and this will probably encourage many to jump to pci express.

Oh, wait...

the gouging can certainly be directly attributed to the manufacturers. their inability to provide any cards in quantity is the exact reason we're seeing all this price gouging. it is, after all, a supply and demand market.

It's a rip-off, but think of that NewEgg $450 "X800" as the X800P VIVO of the 110nm X800s. It has a full 256MB GDDR3, dual DVI, and VIVO. It may well be modded into a X800XL fairly easily.

Still not worth $450 to take that chance, tho. Heck, it's not worth 100% over MSRP just in principle.

i'm building a new system soon and i would rather have a x800 inside it because it performs better than the 6600gt, but only if it costs $200.

No its not in stock. But it is nice to see not everyone is going to pull a newegg and price gouge. They say the MSRP is $350 though, its supposed to be $300. Guess that makes their price look better.

Never buy from Buy.com!

These small retailers are talking out of their a$$es. Most of them will never have the high demand stuff in stock.
