Well the system in my sig is due for an upgrade. i'm looking for a platform that offers more future-proofing. that's it. will the 1155 socket for sure support ivy bridge and will the x79 for sure support ivy bridge-e?

if the x79 will support ivy bridge e, i'm probably going to grab myself one of the x79 boards and a sandy bridge e and then upgrade to ivy bridge e when it's out. does this sound like a good plan?

x79 is a waste of money. Socket 1155 is cheaper, more mainstream, and more better. You should be able to get a 2600K up to 5.5GHz and an Ivy Bridge up to 6.2GHz.

You need to look at your intended usage and budget to decide really.

X79 if...
-you plan on building a three way SLI/Crossfire rig
-you run multi-threaded apps that can take advantage of the 6 cores
-you have at least $1k+ to spend on cpu/motherboard/RAM.

Z68 if...
-you plan on running a single card or two way SLI/Crossfire
-you do a lot of video transcoding that can take advantage of Quick Sync (P67 doesn't support this)
-Your funds are more limited to $500-600 for cpu/motherboard/RAM

Make no mistake about it, X79 is the best right now. The only place where it trails Z68 is Quick Sync and price. Also, for what it's worth, if you fall more into the Z68 category, I'd personally just wait for Ivy Bridge. It will be everything Sandy Bridge/Z68 is, but Ivy looks like it will probably clock higher (lower TDP), and the Z77 chipset will finally support USB 3.0 natively.

Why did you start 2 threads asking the EXACT same thing within 1 minute of each other? Don't do that, if you want to change something then use your brain and edit your post.
