HI, i purchased the Rampage IV Formula + 3930k + 16GB 2133MHZ Gskills

Any way, past 3 days had no problem testing my OC running games etc in ACHI (think thats it) mode ie not raid... transfered my steam games across played tested them no problems

Well after established my pc was 100% stable @ 4.5ghz i re-installed window 7 64bit Ultimate ... loaded the latest raid drivers, from asus V.3.0.0.2003

Issue is when i transfer (large file transfers) to a raided drive the system locks up the mouse laggs across the screen until its completly frozen and a hard reset is required .....

Anyone have a solution to fix this ? as i said was working 100% non-raid mode ... + doesnt feel snappy like its meant to :(

System
3930k 4.5ghz 100*45 1.34v
Rampage IV Formula
AX1200
3x GTX 480 900mhz core
Ram Gskills 2133 Cl9 1.65
CPU-GPU's W/C
HD- OS OCZ Agility 3 60gb
Games SSD - 60gb Gskills falcon
Raid 1 - 2x WD 1tb (data)
Raid 0 - 2x WD 250gb (games)

Theres been lotsa probs with the rollout of the X79's
The R4E has had a quick slew of beta bios updates. An original 076b update, then 083a 083b
Theres a big thread on hforum and also on xtremesystems
The XS thread also mentions RAID probs
I am sooooo glad I didnt rush out to buy one of these
Imagine spending $500 for a mobo and its a lemon - lol
Never be a first adopter

Just a quick few things
Unless you know the registry tweaks you cant switch back and forth between AHCI and RAID
If you want RAID, you should set it in Intel SATA in BIOS first then install Win 7 X64 Ult
During install you should have Intel RST driver on USB stick ready for use with add driver icon during custom install, then after clicking that you steer the install to the X64 driver. BOTH AHCI AND RAID are in same folder. Then you click OK and after it says successfull installed, take OUT USB and go back and hit refresh to change FOCUS to O/S install from DRIVER install then continue.

So you turned off all other SATA controllers - Marvel ASMedia, set RAID in bios for Intel, rebooted and quickly hit Cntrl-I for RAID setup and set the parameters?

When you used the CD ASUS RAID (there is no such thing as ASUS RAID) driver disk creater, where did you put it and what version was it? During boot in RAID mode you will see the bios oprom loaded in upper right. If you hit the pause button once - it will not go away. I am absolutely DYING to know which one is in the ship bios.

What drivers are showing in dev man for Intel RAID controller?

Thankyou for your reply

Yes.. I set Mode to Raid (only on ACHI when testing my OC, fresh install after found stability, BTW worked perfect in ACHI so def looks like bios driver problems)
Raid mode set in the bios .. set up my raid disks which are for storage.. + Games and during windows instillation (64bit Ultimate) loaded the raid drivers via USB key (latest from asus website V.3.0.0.2003)

In Device manager the driver version says 6.1.7600.16385 is that correct ??

This is the same driver "6.1.7600.16385 " on all drives as listed below..

60gb OCZ Agility 3 = Windows installation
64Gb Gskills Falcon = SSD for games
2x 1tb WD in raid 1 = My docs + data
2x 250Gb WD in Raid 0 = Other games

I have done some tests the freezing only happens when transfering mutliple files at once to either of the Raid 1 / 0 disk setups ... not the SSD's that do not form part of a raid array

I guess i will have to wait on a bios update / driver update :(

(all these disk were set up in the same way on my x58 platform for past 2yrs so i know there all good, OCZ bought 6months ago)

Disabled the asmedia conroller (not using it) same issue , this is all running of the Intel X79 chipset ...

& yes Awsome fun to not only spend $500 , but $1500 to have this rubbish... I wish they tested these more diligently prior to release ... It appears many ppl are having this or similar issues with Raid set ups on X79

No thats the MS Windows O/S version
Now they offer the RSTE drivers (enterprise) something I've never seen before. Downloading them now.
Sheesh
Did you install the 231mb dot Net 3.5 that came with the package. Should show in cntrl panel progs and features.

And I did ask what oprom vers was shipped in your bios? 10.5.0.1034 or 11.0 something?

Edit:
Downloaded and looked. looks like there is an Intel 3.00.2003 IF you use the DRIVERS folder
If you use the RST Install/drivers folder you get the 10.5.2.1007 (32 bit Win 7 only)
Another ASUS boobytrap
I need a screenshot of your Dev man Intel RAID controller driver tab

No you did good
Apparently theres no more 64bit RST RAID on X79 chipset, only RSTe, tho I assume one might try an earlier "normal" RST for 64 bit. Apparently the chipset drivers install a RAID SCU miniport.

And that new oprom - verrry interesting. Everyone is waiting for the new Intel 11.5.0.xxxx oprom which is supposed to cure all SATA issues.

To post a pic:
Put camera in VGA mode so pic isnt gigantic
Connect camera USB transfer cable to USB port on PC other end to camera, turn on camera and Win 7 will ask you if you want to save it and where
then go to tinypic.com and browse to saved pic
Upload pic and copy lowest result link
Click on insert image icon on forum post window and paste in link.

Fwiw - heres a hot tip for you
Change one setting in bios and many probs disappear.

Might be a good idea to read whole thread actually.

Edit: You dont need extended - not for endusers

Thanks again

Yeh seems to work fine now ... just large USB transfers / multiple ones it doesnt like ..

Will wait till a bios update + new raid / rst 64bit drivers do a fresh install and post on here if that fixes it or not :)
