X79 2011 New build need help

I want to go Sandybridge E 3930K with a view to upgrading to Ivybridge E if that's a viable upgrade path. I also want 4.6-5.0Ghz with something like a Corsair H100/Noctua NH14. Will an X79 mobo support Ivybridge E and will I be able to reach 4.8/5.0 using those coolers? I know its luck of the draw so I'm going to buy from a non specialist site (i.e. one where the staff haven't pre-screened all the cpu's to keep or sell the best overclockers in custom build machines for clients). Thinking of Asrock Fatality X79 or Rampage IV or GB X79 UD3-will the UD3 cut it (I may well go tri SLI/ trifire so want 3 PCIe x16 if possible?
An help/opinions/advice appreciated.

Unless I'm mistaken, no one knows for sure right now whether X79 boards will work with IVB-E. But it seems incredibly unlikely that Intel would roll a new chipset here; other than USB3, X79 isn't missing any important features. So the working assumption is that X79 will support IVB-E.

As for those clockspeeds, even with an H100 you're going to struggle to hit those speeds. SNB-E is so large that it doesn't hit near-5GHz speeds quite as well as SNB. 4.5GHz is a more reasonable target, IMHO. If you shoot for anything more, you may find yourself let down.

I doubt intel will switch platforms just for IB-E, so itll probobly work fine in an X79 board. Most pwople who get SB-E and OC it would get a custome WC system, an H100 MIGHT barely work, but its safer to spend the exact same amount of money and grab a RASA kit.

If you go for 4.5ghz an H100 might not be enough if you plan on doing any 100% workload stuff like folding etc. These chips get really hot man.

I have a custom water kit with 6x 120mm fans cooling my 2x 680's and a 3930k. Its not enough cooling for a 3930k above 4.5Ghz. I have pretty much topped my chip out in terms of safe voltage anyway so its far to say 5.0 is very unlikely indeed unless you are willing to go into the danger zone on voltage and be somewhat unstable.

Honest answer on IB-E is no one knows. It would make sense to be on the same chipset, in practice who knows what Intel is going to do.

Word is X79 2011 will indeed be the IV-E socket but 2011 is missing a ton of features...native usb3, only two Intel sata 6/gb ports and of course Thunderbolt. So I'd wager the same will happen as with X58A. X79A will roll-out at the time time of IV-E launch about 10-12 months from now and be adorned with all the latest tech. Possibly even DDR4, but that's wishful thinking....I think. All told, Z79A should pass Z77 with the desired accoutrements and trimmings.

If you have solid case airflow, the Noctua will be a good choice. The H100 will be better if you don't (see that you use 2x6990s). Either, with decent case cooling, will get you around 4.5ghz. Maybe a little more, if you get a good low-voltage CPU.

😎Jacky60: 4.5 Ghz is hardly slow. My 4.53 Ghz SB 2500k cpus (44x203) are VERY fast for 4 cores. I can only imagine what a 4.5 Ghz 6 core HT beast such as the 3930k is 😀

I can comfortably hit 4.4ghz with an h100 on my 3930k. 4.5ghz is hotter than I prefer. After a month or two I dropped it to 4.3 so I could reduce voltage and keep temps around 66C.
