I know the 6600GT is faster, but it costs considerably more. Since I am on a tight budget the X700 Pro looks like a good deal. I don't game very much. Actually none at all, but Im planing to try out all the new games like Half Life 2 and Doom 3 and I dont want to have a bad experience with sucky graphics and crappy frame rates. I am looking at the refub parts at the egg and a Sapphire X700 Pro 128MB costs only 103. The 6600GT is a Rosewill and it costs 135. I was told that the 256MB versions dont do much so i ruled those out. I don't upgrade a computer very often. Maybe once every 2-3 yrs, but I dont want to spend money on a graphics card that wont be able to play the games in a year or two. So i need your guys opinions. Thanks.

I have never heard of Rosewill but have owned a few Sapphire video cards and they are a reliable brand. There is not a huge difference in performance between a 6600 GT and a X700 Pro especially if you don't have a powerful processor.

Having personally been in your boat go with the x700 Pro. It is 40-50 bucks less and they hit 3dmark05 within 50 points of each other on a real machine, not a test bed. I ended up taking back my x700 because I had read some MUCH about how great the 6600GT was on these forums, and it ended up being louder(cheap ass fan on the BFG card) and got the EXACT same performance for 50 bucks more. Just stick with the x700 you will be fine.

anyday...i would go for the 6600GT since it beats the X700Pro in practically every game except HL2 and maybe one or two other games.
