Hey guys If you haven't read my other post I am building a pc. I know if i get either of these two video cards (X700 Pro Vs. 6600 GT (Chain Tech)) I will be happy with the results since at the moment I am using an ati 9200 pci card and I get horrible in fps in games. But they are both close to the same price. And yes i have read the reviews about how the GT smoked the Ati x700 pro or in most of the games (ecspecially doom 3). Yet if you have looked at a ati x700 pro (I saw one at best buy) It said refeered graphics so i wanted to know if you think i should get this card if I am going to purchase HL2. I also play doom 3 but hl2 will most likely be my most played game. I would appreciate your opinion.

Thanks a lot.
Signed,

I would take the 6600 GT over the X700 pro anyday (especially that they're at the same price)

X700 pre vs 6600GT? Theres almost no competition there. The 6600GT will beat the crap out of the X700pro. The X700XT would be a better match for the 6600GT.

But the XT costs more than both :p

128MB X700XT costs as much as the 256MB X700P and the 128MB 6600GT--namely, $200.

And I'd get a 6600GT over a X700P, 256MB or not. Knee-buckling speed is still more important than eye-watering textures.

The nice thing about x700pro is that I saw a review where they got higher than xt speeds, so with the 256 ram it seems like it could be a pretty sweet bang for buck video card.

6600Gt is > the X700XT.

Not to say that the X700Xt is a bad card but the GT is better. Now the regular 6600 IIRC gets crushed by X700Pro.

its the price pete. the 6600GT offers pretty amazing performance for the price, and as far a features goes, the 6600 series destroys the new ATI's, IE PS3.0. yes the 6800 series (except for the LE) has better performance, but you have to spend at least $270 to get a comperable 6800xx card, whereas the 6600GT is $200

Good to know. How long before they come out? I was in the market for a good above-average card <$250, so this might be the ticket.

Eye watering? Do you cut onions while you game?
