X700 DVI issues

I recently installed a new Radeon x700 128MB card and a Dell 1905FP monitor using the DVI connection.
The monitor randomly goes into sleep mode or flashes on and off (mostly off). It works fine with VGA but the display quality sucks. I RMAed the monitor but still have the same problems. A web search finds that there are others with X700 DVI issues and that the manufacturer is aware of the issue but has not done anything about it.

Anybody know of any solutions.

i don't exactly know what you're talking about but i don't have the exact same problem as you with my x700pro and dell 1905fp on DVI...

when i first got my monitor, when i was playing games...the monitor would turn black for a half a second..this happened like once per minute...i then realised it was my sidebar that was making my monitor flash..closed my sidebar and everything was fine.

and also, when i just jump to windows while inside WOW, sometimes, the monitors goes black for a second...i haven't found the source of this minor problem but it ain't bothering me....

as for the display quality, i think its great..i guess i may not have your problem but also, is your problem occuring while you're doing whatever stuff or just in games like my problems.

If you had an AGP problem like I did, reduce speed to 4x and turn off fast writes and see if that helps. It's very likely an instability issue and nothing wrong with the monitor. The monitor turning off is just a side-effect.

xtknight, no VGA probs. The monitor works fine in VGA. But display quality is significantly better in DVI and I want to use this monitor for photo editiing.

cmrmrc, My card is a x700 Express. Don't know the difference between the Pro and the Express.

Here are my symptoms: When I first used the card I was using Catalyst 5.9 ( I think, of 5.6). The monitor would stay on for a varied amount of time (2min -2hours) and then go into power saving mode. I could trigger the power saving mode sometimes when I switched Users. The screen would go black for a few seconds then go into power save mode.
I have reloaded Windows (MCE 95), reseated the card, reattached the cables, used a different cable. I uninstalled the Catalyst version I was usining and loaded the newest version 6.1. Now the monitor ( a new unit) is normal for a few minutes then goes black, flashes on, goes black, etc. Each time it goes black it flashes on a shorter time and goes black a longer time.
I have found this issue mentioned on other forums with the X700 and DVI but have not heard of any fixes.
