Both boards are completely and utterly identical...only difference being the Extreme editing has a water cooling block for the Northbridge, as well as a nicer air cooler for the Northbridge if water cooling isn't used.
If you don't use water or don't plan too...then the UD5 will be just as good as the Extreme. The nicer air cooler for the NB with the Extreme edition isn't worth the extra $$$.
This is just my two cents...but I assure you I'm correct in my information.
As far as what manufacturer to go with...I always say Gigabyte...they've reached a new echelon when it comes to the best BIOS and the best build quality over the other big names. You can't go wrong.
Yah, thanks, i´ll go with UD5. No watercooler for me and i own a CM-690 with 8 fans, so temperatures will be good anyways. People told me Extreme had a better bios... But I don´t think it´s worth, to pay 200 more dollars for a fancy northbridge cooler and an improved bios (but the cooler is pretty cool. 200 dollars cus i live in Brazil and things here sux alot, i´ll be paying like 600 dollars in the UD5).
Holy Cow man!!! Thats insane! As far as BIOS goes I don't know anything about that...but I'm sure the BIOS are the same...I mean, the UD5 here is almost $300, so I'm sure Gigabyte didn't skimp on anything or features.
Personally I still would go with Gigabyte. According to Newegg reviews the UD5 is just the way to go. Sucks you don't live in the US however...newegg.com has the MSI Eclipse for $230 open box from its $350 new price!
Yeah, I wish I could live in the USA. I just got back from the USA, with my i7 920 + GTX 280 + OCZ Platinum 6GB 1600Mhz + X-fi Fatal1ty Titaniun + Patrior Warp SSD V2 32GB + Western Digital VelociRaptor 10K RPM but i could not find any X58 motherboard in stores and i could not order online, so i´ll have to buy it here in Brazil. So UD5 is a nice to go, right? No need for extreme?
What about Biostar X58? Only problem is it´s second PCI-E is 4x, so it´s not good for SLI. I have only 1 card, but we have to think about the future, and i´ve head it has less power things for the processor, so thats bad for OC.
As I've always heard it...you have the 2 x 16x slots for graphics while the third 4x slot could be used for a lower end card to handle the Physx processing...such as 2 x 295's in first two slots and a 9600GT in the third for Physx processing. I'm still solid on the UD5 as a board of choice. No need for extreme unless you want to water cool now or in the future (still not needed though...all marketing in my opinion).
Unless I'm right on everything I guess no one has any other opinions? Is this a chat with your buddy forum or a true technical assistance forum? 100 views and I'm the only one with a voice? Lets help this guy out people!
I think this is a brand new plataform and only a few people know it, so many can´t give their opinions, as they don´t have one. I´ve created like 3 topics like this in this fórum, only a few replies. I tried it in other foruns with no sucsess too.
In either case though...I'm positive you will have only the best experience with Gigabyte...I've been using their boards for the better part of a decade and can't complain about a single one I've owned. They all overclocked well and all of them came to me alive and ready to go, never had a DOA.
I currently have a AMD X2 6400+ Running in a GB 790FX-DQ6, i´m very happy too, no complains. Ill go with the UD5, thanks you. But that chipset cooler in the extreme is the coolest thing, and the box is fancier. But it´s like money thrown away.
Not only that...but with the price differences if you really needed a better NB cooler just get an aftermarket one that'll cost you less $ and probably cool better.
It'll probably get pretty warm...but the stock cooler is more than enough...my UD3R cooler has heatpipes and according to one review I read about my board...even with the heatpipes taken off the motherboard still ran for a 24 hour period playing a looping 3DMark Vantage and was still running fine with no crashes the next day...so over all I wouldn't even worry about it...Gigabyte wouldn't put a sub-par cooler and one of the top of the line boards ya know?
ah, yes, the UD5 has a different bios than extreme, dont know which is "better" but ya, go with UD5. the MSI bios is crap, if ur OCing, get the evga or the UD5. I'd say definitely go for the UD5 if ur looking at it. I have one. My dad got the EVGA though. I wouldn't go with the biostar or XFX either. XFX might be a bit better though. Still, UD5 probably the best option.
Are you saying you aren't satisfied with your UD5 and wish you had gone with the EVGA? If not then why would you not recommend something you own and knows works badass?
