I am on my third X58 motherboard and what a rollercoaster ride ! I have an odd issue . Filled the slots with 2 GBs and 4 gb listed in bios but more listed in CPU-z and speccy - nothing new there . Try running 3 modules and same , so next time I start and press down on the heatsink ( yes it is screwed down properly and not over tightened ) and bingo 6 GB , restart and cold start no problem . The problem comes with slot B1 , tried running 4 ram modules in triple channel and the bios picked up all 8 GB and DMI pool data cleared BUT windows hangs on the starting windows screen - no logo ! How is this happening ?

Is there some particular reason that you are still wedded to X58 platform? It's rather old, and the mobos for it (unless you get a newly-made Chinese one, which I'm not personally so sure that I'd trust), are likely starting to "break down".

It is rude and ill mannered to answer a question with a question , especially when the replied question is argumentative in nature .
I think you read way too much into their response. There's not a whole lot of people on our board who still use a X58 based system, so it was likely inquisitive.......and not argumentative. You did state you've already been through three motherboards, so there is a point where you have to consider the platform is not worth sinking any more money into.

However, responding the way you did will likely not get anyone to give you help/guidance.

BIngo! Someone got it.

OP, why are you continuing to throw bad money after good? X58 is old enough now, that most available mobos for it are going to be "used and abused", especially with the prevalence of easy overclocking on that platform.

Thankfully, there's a newer, more up-to-date platform, with newer, BRAND-NEW mobos, that allows essentially unfettered overclocking too, called "AMD AM4" (with Ryzen 3000-series CPUs, that are EXCELLENT performers).

At least, consider upgrading your platform, that's all that I'm saying. Sorry if you took offense to my confrontational style, I was just trying to make you 'think'.

Edit: I wouldn't pour any money into an older platform either, like a Core2Quad or something. Yes, it might be well-loved, but it really just doesn't make sense. If my two Core2Quad machines die, I'm just going to let them die, I'm not going to try to keep them on life-support forever, no matter how much of an emotional attachment I might have to them. At some point, you just gotta let them go...

X58 is a great platform, still IMO, but as mentioned most of the available motherboards are going to have issues, and the ones that don't may be very hard to find. Having a memory channel drop out is not an uncommon issue I found; I even have a salvaged Asus P6X58D Premium board with channel A not working. That said, you could try a different CPU such as a westmere, where a different and more robust memory controller might help. They are very inexpensive compared to the boards and easy to find.

Anyway what CPU are you running now and have you memtested all your DIMMs?
