X570 AMD

What’s the current theory why it requires more power? Something to do with the 3000 Ryzens or something to do with PCI Express 4.0 or both or something else?
 
I dont know the answer to that question. But I am interested in finding out myself. Ive put off far too long an upgrade. Just imagine the jump ill see going from a 8120 / 990FX to a 3600X / X570. So ya, im interested in your question.
 
X570 shouldn't offer any new features over X470, so I can't imagine it being much more than a rebrand of X470 + PCIe4.0 . Unless they're going to come in with USB 4.0 support. Would that expand power usage?

X570 shouldn't offer any new features over X470, so I can't imagine it being much more than a rebrand of X470 + PCIe4.0 . Unless they're going to come in with USB 4.0 support. Would that expand power usage?

I’ve read it (X570) will take approximately 15 watts to power whereas x370/470’s take 6-8 watts to power.

i think intel will still be better than ryzen 3 but i can always dream.

I dont need pcie4 (i dont think!) ddr5 would be nice tho, i only run a 30$ set of 2x4gb 3200mhz and runs everything very fast and cool. Ill wait for ryzen 3 for that too. :0

First:

X370 = 8W TDP
X470 = 6.8W TDP

It's only a rumour as yet. The rumour mill has the X570 supporting PCIe 4.0 for the CPU-to-FCH connection, and should have full PCIe 3.0 support for the GPP lanes coming off it. Perhaps a few more lanes then the current 8 too? I could see all that taking a few more W then the current X470.

For comparison the old Intel X58 requires 25W for the northbridge, and a further 6W for the ICH10R. So 15W isn't that much in historical terms.

Further, due to PCIe 4.0, it should be an in-house AMD design. Not Asmedia. Who will continue making the lower tier ones.

As always take with a large grain of salt.
 
It's probably related to PCIe 4.0, all else being equal. Even if it uses 10-15W that's still an insignificant amount of power/heat.
 
My guess is that it will fundamentally be similar to X470 but provide a PCI-e 4.0 connection to the CPU and then output PCI-e 3.0 lanes. I'm curious to see what die size is necessary for this (since most of the logic is now on the Zen SoC) and what node they use. PCI-e 4.0 to 3.0 muxing might be more power intensive? Not sure.

I doubt I'll see any reason to upgrade to X570 if BIOS updates enable PCI-e 4.0 on the top slot of 400 series boards (and maybe the primary m.2 slot?). We could be seeing an interesting combination of 4.0, 3.0 and 2.0 PCI-e on BIOS updated 300/400 series boards. Very interesting times.
