I was chatting with my bro and hes all giddy over the BMW line - I would be too if I made as much $$ as he did.

However, I seem to recall a thread about the problems with the 3.0 and 4.4L X5s...

Can anyone point in me in the right direction?

A message posted by Hawkeye00 2000 in the yahoo group:
I have a 2001 BMW X5 and I have had many problems with it such as:
1) Doors freezing shut due to design problems
2) ABS brake problems
3) Park Distance Control problems
4) Window switch problems
5) Radio display needing replacement
6) Rear hatch switch needing replacement
7) Transmission switch replaced due to recall
8) Brake line recall
9) Battery defective
10) Driver's side mirror vibration
11) Rear hatch popping open when putting in Park
12) Ride height incorrect

I have been back and forth many times to have these things fixed and frequently wait 1-2 weeks to have the parts arrive from Germany. I am not a difficult person to deal with but I don't believe I should be having so many problems with a brand new expensive car from a "quality" manufacturer.

So I am posting this note to request others who have had similar or other problems with their X5's to email me with your story so I can see just how wide-spread these problems are and maybe get enough ammunition to get BMW's attention.

BTW, I live in Toronto and have a 4.4 litre.

as far as i know, there isn't a big problem with the x5's

they're not the best 'utility vehicles' but they are definitely the best 'sport vehicles' of the suv's
as far as cargo carrying, they aren't the greatest or anywhere close
they have less cargo capacity and worse fuel mileage than a 323 wagon

they are on the faster side (or one of the fastest for the 4.4) of the suv spectrum
they are bmw's, so that makes them damn good cars

i would reccommend one, but for the money, u can do better as an suv - go look at an acura mdx for a great blend of sport/utility:)
