Hey all,
New rig soon and pretty much decided on X48 chipset. So I read the preview of the DFI LanParty X48 on here, and I have some questions.
It seems this is the first and only (that I know of) X48 board that will have ICH10R instead of ICH9R. What does this mean for real-world performance to a non-overclocker like myself? From what I understand this has to do with disk controller - is it a major enhancement? (I am planning to run RAID 0 with two Raptor's most likely.)
Secondly, assuming ICH10R is desirable, is the DFI likely the only X48-based board to have this, or are other X48 makers planning to do it? Seems like the two I was thinking about (Gigabyte and ASUS) both are using ICH9R.
Finally, I'm not very familiar with DFI, but they seem to have a great reputation despite not being quite as out there (at least in my perception) as some of the other manufacturers. How do they compare in things like build quality, BIOS, support, etc. to ASUS/Gigabyte and some of the other top manufacturers? Also, it seems they're geared towards tweakers/overclockers and I keep reading they're tweak heaven, which is great, but for a non-overclocker, is the BIOS on these boards easy enough to set up (with autodetection, etc.), or do you have to manually set everything?
Frankly, the DFI board looks great... Only thing is, and this is silly - I really, really don't care for the lemon-lime color scheme. But, if it comes down to having a better board or prettier colors (I rather like Gigabyte's), the better board wins out.
Thanks all for any info. you can provide.
