Obviously they were threatened with legal action by nVidia. This is on the front page:
Under Deconstruction

We are presently in sensitive negotiations and have decided to temporarily take the x-3dfx site down.

We didn't expect the phenomenal interest that this site has generated. We would like to thank each and every one of you for your support and encouragement. The x-3dfx team has worked consistently since Friday 15th December 2000 to build a new innovative company based upon the talents and expertise of the 3dfx Belfast office in Northern Ireland and this site was fundamental in focusing our efforts towards this goal.

It has been an honour working for 3dfx and we hope that you got as much enjoyment from using our drivers as we obtained from creating and building them.

Watch this space for future developments from our new company, and once again thank you for your support.

Not terribly surprising.

Nvidia sucks. I sincerely doubt I'll be buying any of their products again. It's one thing to buy your competitor out, but it's quite another to cease driver development, pull product from stores, and not agree to honor warranties. 3dfx shares some blame, too, but they were not in a position to bargain.

Couldn't agree more. The site was getting some NICE publicity, mostly anti nVidia so it would appear nVidia probably orderd them to cease and desist. Typical.

You are quite uninformed. #1 Nvidia did NOT buyout 3dfx... they bought their core assets (The 3dfx name, their technology etc..) They did NOT buy their current product lines. The driver development and warranties are in NO way involved in this transaction, and being such there is no reason NVidia should do these things. #2 Nvidia did NOT pull product... Best Buy did because it would be bad PR for them to sell non-supported products.

Lemme see:

1) 3dfx made bad decisions
2) 3dfx paid the price by losing tons of money
3) NVidia saw a great opportunity in getting 3dfx technology
4) The legally bought 3dfx's assests
5) 3dfx is the one that chose to stop driver support
6) Since NVidia now owns 3dfx core technology, it does not make since to continue to have a competing product on the store shelves against their chips
7) It's over, stop raking this thing over the coals
8) GROW UP!:|

no, it isn't nVidia's fault, directly. we all know it was the idiot(s) on the top of the 3dfx heap that did this.. he was looking for a parachute out, and made quite a bundle, selling 3dfx.

NFS4, I agree, don't whine so much guys.

whining never helped anything. go out and change the world to help.
