X38?

I've been out of the game since I built the system in my sig 🙂 That puts me nearly two generations behind, I think.

I see folks talk about the X38...I think it's a chipset (albeit with a cool name) but what's the big deal?

It's a new Intel chipset to be released sometime early-mid September that's targeted for gamers, overclockers, and enthusiasts. It features 45nm support, DDR3 (although there are DDR2 supported boards), and dual PCI-e 2.0 that will support Crossfire and maybe 3rd party SLI.

it's the replacement for intel's current "enthusiast" 975 platform. Unfortunately, intel has released 965 and p35 platforms since 975 came out, so many enthusiasts are now using "mainstream" mobos. It's supposed to run btwn 200-300. The original specs from intel call for ddr3, but many mobo makers have already announced ddr2 units.
