x38 MB recommendation

Would someone give suggestions on a X38 Chipset MB using DDR2? I will not be using SLI, but may do CrossFire sometime in the way future.

The case I will be using is the Mountain Mod MM-UFO. I have no plans right now to do Water Cooling, but may do that in the future as well. I do plan on getting a Thermaltake Ultra-120 Extreme Heatsink & a Scythe S-FLEX SFF21F 120mm Case Fan.

I also need recommendation for a good high end memory, but I will curb that for the Memory board.

Asus Maximus Formula or P5E

and you mean Thermalright, not Thermaltake...

and for ram, go with Corsair or Crucial 800 or 1066, depending on how much you overclock.

I was looking at the ASUS's myself and was wondering about the SE Edition. I will not be using Water Cooling at all but I like the second NIC & the fact that its the ROG's issue.

Also, was thinking about the ABIT IP35 Pro too. Also planning a Q6700 w/ Zalman 9700 Cooler in a Lian-Li A16 Case.

What are your thoughts about these two topics above? The rest of my build is pretty final except the Motherboard & with the 8800GT coming next week, I'm ready to build it.

Plenty of people saying that the performance delta between P35 & X38 is minimal atm so I guess it comes down to whether you think that you'll ever need the extra x16 PCI-E lanes on the nb & the difference in price.

Thx for the replies ~

Sounds like the X38 is a waste of time right now if the industry is gonna skip right by it. I'm getting that feeling more and more seeing the very small amount of retail products, not to mention the delays that have already occurred.

As for the IP35-Pro, I don't see myself ever running a Cross-fire setup. The ABIT board also seems to be getting the best overall reviews from both Hardware sites & Newegg. I also don't see the PCI Gigabit NIC issue as being that big of deal. as for Overclocking, I'm hoping to force the FSB to 333MHz on the Q6700 bringing it to 3GHz & that would be the extent of my overclocking (if any).

x48 will replace X38 huh? Interesting...

I am waiting for a nice DDR2/DDR3 combo MB myself. Will be using DDR2 for a while, and once DDR3 becomes reasonable, I can buy some to overclock a Penryn even more.
