My 27" panasonic TAO flat screen supports both these inputs, (yellow, red and white) or (red, green and blue). whats the difference?

which set of wires should i plug in?

yellow red white are standard RCA connections. red & white are audio and yellow is video. the yellow one sends all video down the same wire. the red, green, blue ones send video down 3 seperate cables for some nice quality HD picture, with the red and white still being for audio.

Chances are your flat screen CRT television supports some high definition (either 480i for older models, or possibly 1080i) but it won't support progressive scan (480p, 720p). How you should set it up is plug in the Red, Green and Blue into the component input in your television and then plug in the White and Red to the corresponding spots for audio. Check your manual for your TV and see what HD it supports and then set (if the Xbox 360 doesn't default) to that resolution.

Component video should always be preferred over composite. What's the exact model of the TV? Panasonic makes an analog and an HD Tau. The HD supports 1080i and 480p.

Still worth it to plug component over composite. My brother plugs his 360 via component at 480i and even that looks leaps and bounds better than composite.
