X300 Vs X700

There are 3 versions of X300. For the desktop anyway. Not sure how they are different in laptops.

X300SE HM (Hypermemory) 4 pipes and shares memory with the system along with a small amount of DDR on the card itself usually 32 or 64.

X300SE 4 pipes with 64-bit memory bus and 128MB DDR dedicated and does not use system memory.

X300 4 pipes with 128-bit memory bus and 128MB DDR decicated and does not use system memory.

Vanilla X700 has 8 pipes with 128-bit memory bus and 128 or 256MB DDR.

TomsHardware did a PCI-E video chart and you can look how much faster the X700 performs over the X300. Stellar difference. Here it is.

There is no guarantee you will get the desktop version of the X300 or X700 in a laptop. I remember when somthing called the ATI Radeon Mobility 9700 was offered in laptops, but what it actually was, was a 9600pro 4 pipe GPU. Different naming scheme for laptops. I don't know if they still deceive people this way.

Got a link to the lappy you are looking at?
