X3: Terran Conflict

I have been wanting to get this game for a while since I am a big fan of Space sims. And after buying it from GameStop I dropped it in the drive, installed it, updated to the latest DirectX from Microsoft (just to be on the safe side) and then tried to play it. The game keeps asking me to put the disk into the drive. The disk is in a drive, but it still won't work.

The only thing I was able to find online with someone else having this problem that then had a reply a few hours later from the same person saying that the problem was solved but no explanation.

I have tried updating to the latest version, but that didn't work. The box says that it will work with Vista SP1, which means that it should work on 7. But just to be safe I tried putting it into Vista SP1 compatibility, and then XP SP2 compatibility and still no luck.

I am trying to play within the rules here and not resort to a NoCD crack or anything like that since this is the first time that I have experienced this whole DRM interference problem, and would like to see if there is a further legit method to correct it.

I don't have a system with Vista installed on it, and cannot find my Vista install disk to put it back onto my computer.

Can anyone help or should I just return the game and call it a day?

IIRC, you probably need to grab a newer version of the TAGES driver for windows 7 compatability.

They are doing a gold edition of TC fairly shortly, and that will likely be when Ego removes the DRM from the exe (they usually patch it out of their games when they have been out for a year or so).

I will have to check that when I get home and see if it works. Thanks for the heads up. Kind of odd that I need a driver to make the DRM work correctly. This is in fact the first problem that I have had with any of my games working in 7.

I have an x3 processor, will this run better do you guys think?? I've currently unlocked to x4 though so does that mean it won't run as good as in x3 mode??

Shwat?

Well thank you aka1nas, that fixed the problem. Their website didn't seem to have any 7 specific drivers that I could find, but I grabbed the 64bit ones and that did the trick. I guess the install disk only includes the 32bit drivers.

I think the included ones are just an older version and didn't work with windows 7. My TC copy is on steam, so I think they live-updated the driver already at some point.

For Terran Conflict, DVD version has a CD check, Steam version has a *5 install limit.
