The intense learning curve, and the HORRENDOUS dialog and story killed it for me.

Haha, you should've seen the cutscenes in X2. The people looked like they had crap up their ass when they walked and they moved like robots. And the story was even worse. And the learning curve was even worse.

Then again, I think most people who play X3 played X and/or X2.

Meh. They hired at least one of the X-tended guys as staff for TC, and it shows. X3:TC has all of the things that annoyed me about Xtended.
It's very similiar to the problem I had with X2. Enemies in X3 weren't especially well armed except in very specific situations. Stay away from Khaak battleships, and out of Xenon sectors until you're decked out. Otherwise though, there were places you could fight without expect to have to limp to a shipyard for repairs after every fight.

Terran Conflict enemies are very well armed. Xenon L's will shred you cause of those danged PBEs, half the pirates in the universe carry the baby PSG plasma guns, and pretty much everything has more missiles then you can afford. If you can find a place to buy them at all, that is.

Which means I'm either in save/reload city until I can somehow manage to get a decent ship, or I'm stuck building a factory empire just to be able to fight in the space combat trading sim. And to be blunt, it doesn't look to me like they've made trade and manufacturing any less obtuse this time around.

Disappointed.

The combat side of the game is actually balanced now and the player can't take on 10-20 enemies at once in a small fighter. You'll actually need to take some support in with you or pick your battles more carefully.

Money is actually a lot easier to make than in Reunion, try some of the station defense mission. These can be done pretty easily in the beginning M4. Worst case, they send in an M6 at the tail end of the mission and you have to slowly wear it down. Takes maybe 3-4 minutes to kill one in the Sabre that you get with the Terran start.

Also, you can now repair your ship for free by undocking and using the repair laser that the spacesuit is now equipped with. Fighters can be repaired fairly quickly, though it's probably time prohibitive for larger ships.

It's a completely separate game.

X3: Terran Conflict will be using the Tages DRM which will be on ALL version of the game. The steam version will have a 5 install limit and require online activation, the DVD will have a CD check but no online activation or install limit (note what I say about the DVD version is what I pieced together from several comments and I could be wrong).

Egosoft claims they will remove the DRM (100% ?) in a year. They have also stated that if you have any issues with the DRM they will not provide help but direct you to the Tages website for support.

Money is not hard to make in X3:Reunion,I'm up to 2 million credits(this is after my mercury transport has trade software v3 and other extra bits added) and only just started to play the game,I'll probably pick up TC some time down the road.

Btw there is a 1.2 patch out already for TC.

I'm shelving it. Probably permanently. The game balance is awful. Yes, an AI ship is equal to mine if we're kitted out the same.
I have to scrape and traverse half the galaxy to get decent equipment, half off the time kissing extraterrestrial behind to get the privilege to buy the stuff. They magically spawn, fully kitted out, in groups of 4-12.
It just ain't fun.

Meh, if that's the case I'm going back to playing X3 Reunion. I hate DRM (have non-Starforce version of X3:R) :|

All X3:Reunion versions can be DRM free with latest patch from their website,I expect X3:TC will have a patch at some point down the road to be DRM free too.

I'm glad I waited before buying X3:Reunion since that had some very nice patches and changes to the game,I expect TC will be similar at some point down the road so I'm going to leave it a good six months before I think about buying the game.
