X2's are cheap, which ones will work on my mobo?

Seeing the price drops of all amd cpu's, im thinking of finally going from single core to X2. Problem is, im out of the loop and have no idea what will work and what wont. The 5200's are all amd2 so that wont work, correct?

Is my best bet trying to score a 4600+ or 4800+? are those my only options?

any socket 939 will work...even opterons. just make sure you have a recent bios and you'll be fine.

im running an opteron 170 in mine with no problems.

What socket type are the AM2 cpu's? On newegg i see them split up between socket 939 and AM2, so these are not the same correct? AM2 wont work on my mobo? Im confused.

am2 wont work in your (ours) mobo. you'll have to get one of those asus m2n ones to get am2 support.

but all am2 is, is just socket 939 with ddr2 support, not a huge increase at all.

if you want to upgrade, go with a dual core athlon64 X2 or an opteron if you want to overclock...if you really want, you could go core 2 duo...

You'll need socket 939. ZZF has the Athlon 64 X2 4800+ for $209.00. (Back Ordered ) I think that's about half of what I paid six months ago.

It's odd to me why ZZF has the 4800+ for 209.00 but also have a 4600+ for 242.00? Isnt the 4800+ faster? Why the higher price diff?

One is AM2 one is 939 ? cant see the link, but AMD screwed the pooch to all 939 owners, IMO.

They have 5200 AM2 for less than a 4800 939 ... AM2 4600 -$118.00
