If you posses some specs about the same... then it makes sense to answer your question while reading the same, in other words we dont have a clue about those cards..

why bother scratching the head for the cards that we dont know anything about

Just an FYI....

The ATI 2XXX cards do not have an x in front of them anymore

It is HD2900,HD2600 etc. etc.
not x2900,x2600...

Gotta be honest though, I hope ATI actually pulls out a mid range punch this time.

The X1600's were so awful compared to the 7600GT that it wasnt even a competition. Then they took far to long to do the X1650 refresh and put out a worthwhile card that it was almost too late.

I dont think it will beat the 8600GTS by much, if it all.

If the high end benches are to be believed, then I would assume the HD2600XT has about the same shader power, if not less than the 8600GTS, plus it's already been confirmed the HD2600XT is going to be using a 128bit bus.

If it doesnt have h.264 decoding like the 8500/8600 then i doubt it.
