X25-M inside Dell Studio 14

A 2.5HD is a 2.5HD except for a few of the early high capacity drives which were a touch taller. But that doesn't apply to SSD's. Unless the 14 takes 1.8" drives you will be fine.

I think the 2.5 form factor should be fine, I'm more worried about the install (connectors and such). Anyone had experience with SSD/Laptop installs? anything I should watch out for ? or is it a simple swap?

You'll be fine there. They slip right in, the connectors are standard.
