X25-M 80G G2 Firmware

Finally got my SSD and reinstalled Win 7 on it. Runs very fast even after going from WD Black Raid-0 array.

I saw some discussions on firmwares for G2s. What should I install and how necessary is it? Also what is the install process, does it require drive format?

Bah! I already Installed it and have it in my case. Any way to check that from Windows?

Also I downloaded a firmware update tool from Intel but its an *.iso file... anyone know what you're supposed to do with it?

It is a CD (or DVD) image file. You use your favorite CD burning software and burn it to disc as an image not as a data disc.

It's embedded in the ISO. AFAIK, the only way to update the drive's firmware is to boot from the ISO you create. It is simple, takes about 5 seconds.

Ahh I see. But does it mean that the data on the drive will be lost once firmware is updated ?

My drive was empty, but I'm 100% sure that the intention of updating the firmware via ISO boot is to keep all of your information intact. I would imagine something catastrophic would have to occur for a firmware update to cause data corruption.

Not really. If the FW runs into any problems in AHCI mode it'll tell you so, it can't harm to do so, but it's no prerequisite.

Thanks guys - I'll be trying this tonight. Any way to copy the .iso to USB and boot from it to say a CD?
