X200S Upgrade processor?

Hi all,

Forgive me if this was already discussed. I am brand new here. I just got a Lenovo X200s Here are the specs:

1.86ghz vpro dual core
Win 7 Professional
integrated video card

AM I ABLE TO UPGRADE THIS PROCESSOR? OVERCLOCK IT? I NEED MORE POWER, HOWEVER THIS WAS THE HIGHEST CONFIGURATION I COULD GET WITH THIS MODEL.

ALL HELP IS APPRECIATED!!

Overclocking on laptops is rare and risky, due to the already poor cooling and limited bios options. Stick to OEM parts or you run the risk of overloading the onboard cooling IMHO.
 
OEM == Original Equipment Manufacture == The guys who built your computer. If you put parts with different heat output in your laptop, you could potentially overheat it. Laptops are built on exacting standards.

If you are in a position to buy a new laptop and just don't want to, you could try software overclocking, but as Gillbot said, this will probably overheat your computer. Be prepared to buy a new one.
 
Likely no, OEM means whatever you can get from IBM.

Sometimes you can upgrade processors on laptops but as I said, you can exceed the capability of the cooler and cause damage.
 
From what I know of Intel LV and ULV processors is that they are usually not socketed. Also every X-series Thinkpad uses a soldered CPU. So you would have to unsolder it and resolder a new one.

As for software O/C I am not aware one. However I wouldn't mind trying it out myself. I know I would never try it on an X61s which gets hot enough even at stock clock, but the X200s due to its bigger casing and cooler processor barely ever even runs the fan. I bet there is some tolerance in the design. Of course you must be prepared in case it reduces your life expectancy.

BTW, I have the same processor, it handles everything like a champ.

i cant buy 10 processors and see what fits. what will most likely fit? how do i find out what will fit?
there must be a choice

or you could read and listen to what I told you. TEAR IT APART to see what is in it, research that chip to determine it's specs and find a comparable component. 🙄
