I was just looking around and I heard good reviews of the X2. I was wondering if the 3800+ X2 blow the 3700+ venice out of the water? Also is it worth the money?

the 3700 is a san diego, not a venice. its L2 cache is twice that of the Venices.

the 3700 san diego can be easily overclocked to 2.4 or more speeds and thus be essentially a FX-55 or FX-57. i think for games, it is better if only slightly. i would buy it since it has amazing overclocking potential

you can get to 3ghz or higher on this processor if right cooling is used. its also about $100 cheaper than the X2 3800

Most X2 3800+ OCs that I'm seeing now (including my own) are hitting 2.4GHz with ease, and will hit 2.6 with good cooling.

MDE - have you decided what you are going to do with your heat situation on your X2 3800+?

I didn't have the option, it was either 3700+ SD v.s 4400+ X2, and clearly the 3700+ SD was the smart choice, then two or 3 weeks later AMD decides to surprise release the 3800+ X2.....thanks a lot jerks -_-, if I had the choice then 3800+ X2.

Probably an XP-90, if not I'll splurge on watercooling.

It depends a lot on what you do with your computer. If all you are going to do is gaming, the single core still makes more sense for now, although future games are going to take advantage of dual cores. If you do things such as video encoding, or 3D rendering, then the dual core is definatly the better choice. Not that I have any problems gaming on my dual core @2.618ghz.

The 3800+ X2/4200+ X2, what is the equivelant single core? At stock of course.

If all you do is game, buy a 4000+

But, personally for me with an x2 3800, I do a ton of video rendering. This thing tears vegas video up like it aint no thang. Its phenominal.

Get the x2, if you oc, you will get it to similar top speeds, and the x2 will be much more future friendly.

X2 3800+ = 2x 3200+ Venice
X2 4200+ = 2x 3500+ Venice

I have a 3700+ San Diego and I love it!!! I do mostly gaming on this machine so it suits me fine.

I must admit though I am a bit jealous of those with the X2's, they were just surfacing in the marketplace when I bought my San Diego. I would go for a X2 now if I had to do it over, but the 3700+ overclocked I think has a pretty good advantage in gaming over the X2 3800+.
