The x2 seems to be quite the "thing" at the moment. Much to do in the cpu overclocking section. I posted this in hopes those of you who plan on putting this together would care to share your components for your rig. This could be helpful for those of us who are condemplating the same venture....

mainly looking for the type of mb ram and video card, anything else would be at your discretion...

thanks

I'm still not entirely sure that I want to do an X2 rig yet (as opposed to a "cheaper" A64), but here's what I would do if I do end up going the X2 route:

X2 4400+ (IMO the best "bang for your buck" in the lineup)
DFI NF4 939 motherboard of some sort (Ultra or SLI, haven't decided yet - but the extra $50 isn't a whole lot when you're paying $600 for a CPU anyway..)
1GB Corsair PC3200 (2x512) that I've had since 2003 :p (unless I feel like adding a second gig)
Geforce 7800GTX probably (or possibly an R520 flavor, if they're available by the time I'm ready to upgrade)

etc...

I'm going to pair it with an Asus A8V Deluxe and 2GBs (1024mbx2) of RAM. I have an X800Pro (AGP) that I'm satisfied with and I can upgrade that at least once more with the new graphics cards being released this Fall. Further, as a musician, I'm avoiding PCI-Express for other reasons. I might get the DFI nforce3 boards that's S939 and features AGP...if the damn thing ever comes out.

I already have a DFI NF4 Ultra with a gig of OCZ VX, i'll be upping the video from current when the new line comes out and prices on teh 6's drop then when i see an X2 for ~500 I think i'll spring for one.

I'd get the setup in my sig, except I'd get the 4800 instead of the 4000, and I'd get 7800gtx's if they were out, but I'm thinking about absolute top-of-the-line.

I'm probably going to go with:

Athlon X2 4400+
ASUS A8N-E or A8N-SLI
2GB Corsair Value Select
- haven't decided on the video yet

For my gaming rig, I'm running a 3200+ Winchester on the ABIT AV8 with 1GB of OCZ PC3500... the AV8 is an AGP board and my video card is the Radeon 9800XT. It's a nice card I want to keep but I'm thinking I want to swap out the Winchester for a dual core very soon. When I'm not gaming I do distributed computing for TeAm Anandtech and a dual core will help me a lot. As long as ABIT sticks with the program they will release an AV8 BIOS that supports the X2 and I will be all set.

Still debating what to do with my Winchester once I swap it out for dual core... maybe I'll build a SFF box since the Socket 939 mATX boards are now coming out, or I should be able to sell it used on eBay without much difficulty.

I have the Abit AV8 board too. It looks like they are expecting to support the x2. That's good as I preordered the 4400+ :)

I'm just swapping the CPU and keeping the rest the same.

4400+ X2 (upgrading my 3500+ which will replace the 3000+ in my Media Center)
2 GB PC 3200
SB Audigy 2
Leadtek Geforce 6800 GT

It's already a great system. Now it will be even better :)

Id just thow an X2 (probably a 4400+) into the setup in my sig. But Im going to wait until the end of the year, see how things are going then.

Probably get a new video card aswell, or put another 6600GT in there in SLI. :)
