what would be the best mobo for an athlon x2? i know it really depends on what you want - so im looking for a mobo that is stable and can overclock decently. dont hafta have sli (since i have an ati card) but does need PCI-e. any ideas?

i was thinking an asus, abit, or gigabyte board.

Epox 9NPA+ Ultra

even more stable then the Asus, and $100 cheaper, but it doesnt have SLI (just PCI-E of course)

plus, it overclocks second best to the DFI

all the boards you guys suggested are Nforce4 boards, and ill have an ATI card - do radeons work on the Nforce4 boards? how bout the sli version of those?

EDIT: and do ALL socket 939 boards support X2's, or just some of them?

All s939 nForce motherboards will support X2 chips, some just require a BIOS update to do so. Others will come stock with X2 support.

Me personally, I plan to stick with my MSI K8N Neo2 Plat. (NF3U) when I go X2.

Absolutely.

I'd get the EPoX 9NPA+Ultra board. It'll probably overclock better. The ASUS A8N-SLI Premium is an excellent choice too, just make sure you don't get the deluxe version. It costs about $55 more the EPoX but you get a silent cooling system if silence is what you want. If you don't care about absolute silence then the EPoX is excellent (the fan isn't that loud either).

And of course your ATI card and X2 will work with the nForce4 chipset.

DFI Lan party NF-D or Nforce4 Ultra-D. Stable/overclocks/supports the x2. Might give you hassles if your worring about updating the bios though, as I dont think they come x2 ready. Pretty sure they can boot with x2s though.
