X2 FPS difference?

I?m trying to make up my mind what processor I want but need a little nudging in which way to go. I have decided to get an X2 over a standard A64 and want to know what kind of FPS difference there would be between an X2 3800+ and a X2 4200+ in games like BF2 and Source assuming I have 2 gigs of RAM and a 7800GTX playing at 1024x768 and above. Is it worth the extra $80-100? I won?t be overclocking but just wondering if the extra frame rate would be worth the cost.

if you want to play games, get athlon 64 4000
dual core performs good in encoding and multitasking but game don't seem that better unless u get x2 4800+

Blah..

Even if you aren't overclocking ( which you should ) I would grab 4200+, considering you have a 7800GTX, and you are playing at a relatively LOW resolution, don't worry about it..

Sacrifice a couple hundred mhz, and get the god damned 2nd core.!

I don?t know. I?m just afraid I might fry or damage a component like my motherboard or RAM and be out a lot of money. If I did overclock it would only be 200mhz or so

"what kind of FPS difference?"

Well, the clock speed difference is about 10% (from 2GHz to 2.2GHz), so the performance increase would be about a 3 to 6% FPS difference. Remember, the fact that the second core is also faster doesn't chance much, since the game will just be using one core.

You have the top of the line video card.
You won't notice an extra 5-10 FPS especially if your already doing over 100 FPS.
If the 3800 is too slow the 4200 will almost certainly be too slow as well.
If you still really want it then buy it and be happy with your purchase.

Also, you should think about overclocking either one, especially since thats why most of the poeple here will tell you to get the 4200.
