with the recent surge in popularity of dual core processors there have been some gaming issues associated with them such as:
-stuttering
-freezing
-bsods
-audio problems
-overall poor perfomance
although x2's are a "plug n play" upgrade for some people, others, myself included, needed a full re-install of windows to make it work properly.
my installation went like this:
1) make sure your motherboard bios are updated for x2 support.
2) install windows (xp requires sp2)
3) install chipset drivers
4) install amd x2 drivers
5) install video card drivers
6) update windows
7) install msft dual core fix if necessary.
EDIT- sorry it looks like the msft changed but Markbnj has it mirrored here. the instructions for the registry edit are in the msft link.
the msft patch fixed the few problems that i had with certain games (i'm looking at you EA). be sure to make the accompanying registry edit.
the msft patch is NOT only for those running cool n quiet.
if anyone has any more input let me know and i can edit this.
