A friend of mine is switching over to a new Conroe system. He is offering me the X2 4800 from his present system for $200.00. I have an X2 4200 currently. Do you think I would see any performance improvement swapping these out. I do not OC. At what point do the hardrives create a bottle neck were no matter what CPU you installed it would not make a difference.

it depends on the rest of your system...for example, if you're a gamer and have a x1900xt...then you could take it since the 4200 is a little bottlenecking your gpu...but if you're surfing things or do not use the system much, then no....

I have an ASUS A8V Deluxe mob. AIW 9800 Pro. System Memory 2048 MB (PC3200 DDR SDRAM) Mainly use CAD "AUTOCAD" and some photo editing. Any upgrade to memory I can do to increase performance?

if you game then no, i wouldn't get it, i'd take that $200 and get a new gpu, like the x1900gt, or x1800xt
i still don't see how the extra 1mb cache will help you..i wouldn't get it.
