X2 4400+ loads windows slowwww

I just installed my new X2 4400+ with an EPOX 9NPA nforce Ultra. Some other specs are 1gb of corsair value ram, 36gb raptor, antec neopower 480W and an ati X800XL.

When I power up my computer...after it gets out of dos the screen turns black for about 1 minute. After it goes to windows. There has to be way to fix it. My 3.2ghz P4 never did anything like this or any other computers I have own. I'm clueless. Please help!

Hmm, what else have you installed or have you done much with Windows yet?

Is your memory showing up as the correct amount?

With a raptor it shouldn't be doing that I would think.

I'd probably update the BIOS, maybe there's something hanging with the board.

Maybe fdisk the raptor and start fresh again?

 
I don't think it's the processor. Could be driver or network issues. Run hard drive diagnostics & memtest86 just to make sure. I had a bad stick of RAM installed one time.... killed Windows on startup.
 
What mobo is it? There are BIOS settings enabled by default that cause that. Check for KB/Mouse Support if you have a MSI board & disable it. It's located in integrated peripherals.
 
Did you do a full format or a quick format? It is beeter to do a full, also That bios should be fine cause it came out in june but you might want to update it and see what happens.
 
Is it stalling at the black Windows XP loading screen? If so, I had the same problem because I had installed the nForce ide drivers. Damn driver would give windows I/O errors with the swap file so it'd stall at loading and I could see the HD access light blink rapidly.

I did a reinstall without the ide drivers and now I load in less than 3 seconds from the WinXP load screen.
 
I did a full format when I installed everything. Before I even installed any drivers...like the first time windows was setting up it was slow from that point. So I have no clue whats going on? All my parts were working fine (Video card, memory, hard drive) with the P4 3.2ghz. Any other advice?
 
Sounds like some driver is enabled that is taking a long time to initialize its hardware, or figure out that the hardware isn't there. I would disable any onboard interface that you don't have a device connected to, see if it speeds up.
 
Yes, there is a device that is responding poorly. Check the Event Viewer System log and look for those pesky red Xs.
 
Earsly, quit worrying about your hardware & Windows. Check your BIOS for the option I gave & also see if you installed IDE drivers when you installed the chipset drivers (your motherboard's driver disk would have these). If you installed the IDE drivers you will need to uninstall them.

One thing that would help immensely is if you would list your PC hardware for us.😕
 
I found boot times to be significantly reduced after installing AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor Driver for Windows XP 1.2.2.2, located here. Did you install this driver?
 
Have the latest drivers for the motherboards chipset? Also if you do and have 6.66 of the Nvidia drivers, DO NOT install the Firewall part of the drivers.

That could be the case. To find out download bootvis, it will give you a graph of what is loading and when it is loading during the boot process. And Yes I know it does nothing to speed up the boot process, it is a diagnostic tool.

Sounds to me like a network problem.

Go to Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Services and right-click on
DNS Client, choose Properties, and set the Startup type to Disabled on the General tab.

Reboot and see if there's a difference.

I listed my hardware in the original post. The motherboard I am using is EPOX 9NPA nforce4 Ultra. I tried everything recommended by everyone. Nothing seems to work. I tried a different hard drive and same problem. Any other ideas? I'm so stuck. When I use windows everything is perfect...just the 1 minute black screen on the startup.
