X2 3800+ 2.0 Ghz (512KB L2 Cache and 10x multi)

or

Opteron 165 1.8Ghz (1MB L2 and 9x multi)?

Planning to do a partial upgrade to dual core goodness.

Will buy ASRock 939Dual (since I need AGP slot) don't know any other mobo out there with s939 and AGP (need to keep my 6800GT for now).

Will overclock since I am coming from a 2.6Ghz system

any comments appreciated :)

My mobo is an MSI K8N Neo Platinum (not Neo 2 Platinum) it is just a socket 754 system. My current system (in sig) is a newcastle on socket 754.

I am not an expert but both of these processors seem excellent for a home computer and should last you a long time. This is assuming by home you mean no major gaming or other similar strains.

wow neo2 refurbished $59 shipped @ newegg
Makes me want to jump on that and a opteron 165 and not have to change out my x800 xt yet.

get whichever cheaper since none of them are guaranteed to overclock a lot, it really depends on luck. There are some X2 3800+ that can overclock fairly high
