Hey guys, I'm planning to get my new rig about a week after the R520 comes out (want to see how it compares to 7800). I plan on overclocking all my components as much as i can.

How much of an advantage do you guys think the 4400 with it's bigger cache has over the 3800 and how do the 4400s overclock?

Thanks

Neither, get the X2 4000+. Expect it in 2~4 weeks.

i agree. the 4000 will probably overclock really well, and has more cache. you should save your money for something else.

Any links you find about the release of the X2 4000+? That would be perfect...especially if it OC'ed as well as the 4400+

Yeah, is there any real proof of an X2 4000+? I thought it was speculation based on the fact that there have been 512kb/1mb counterparts for every speed notch so far.

4200/4400
4600/4800
3800/4000???

it's only speculations, amd has no plans CURRENTLY of releasing a 4000+, but it may change in the future

to be honest, that 160 dollar price difference from the 3800 might be worthit, especially if it will overclock better than the 4000+ when it comes out

I have a friend who works at an e-tailer. Also, what do you think of the Opteron 170? That's a S940 2.0 GHz dualcore part, right there. There's also an Opteron 165, at 1.8 GHz. It's been confirmed that if you snip the extra pin off of an Opteron chip, it will work in an S939 motherboard, of course, depending on what chip it is.

100 series opteron dual cores were actually released on socket 940? AMD just did an announcement saying that they'd be socket 939, I didnt think they'd actually ship them in the 940 form-factor as well.

Google is all you need 😀.

once again i ask...

how come no 1meg L2 single core 2.0 ghz chip then? i gues it would be called a 3500+.... since 1meg L2 2.2 is 3700+....

wonder if amd will release a single core 2.0 1meg l2 chip then.... hmm...

I believe (but I'm not sure) that that Opteron part (because it existed) was a flop, because you could get the 2.2 GHz part for like $150 more.

There will be no 4000+ X2... I say it again and again... but it seems to keep coming up!

It will be like the standard 64s... the 1mb cache doesn't start till 3700+... there is NO 2ghz 1mb cache part as it stands right now for the Athlon 64 lineup... what makes you think they will make a 4000+ X2?! there is no proof!

You people wait for vaporware when there is perfectly awesome parts out there already aka 3800+ for cheap!
