usually, you'll want to stay under 60C/65C MAX!

Something HAS to be wrong with your temperature.....either your heatsink was installed poorly or your temp sensor is wrong. try touching your heatsink to see if it's actually 54C

btw, try updating your bios

Thats definitely way too hot for idle, unless your ambient temp is somewhere in the 40-45°C area. :) Do as Unkno said and check whether the HSF is seated bad or the temp sensor is fooling you.

I plan on adding a new power supply and a 7600 Gt gpu which will probably make my temp higher?
I touched the heatsink and it isnt hot so im a bit confused?
Any suggestions on a budget heatsink unit?are they as easy to install as the single core Athlon Xp were

Getting new PSU and vid card shouldn't affect temps that much (however, the GPU will increase temps by a couple of degrees). Budget heatsink recommendation: Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro.

Thanks for the reply LOUISSSSS,This is actually my wifes pc it's a Hp Pavilion (a1430n) so the cooler is what Hp uses.
I'm gonna try to reseat the Heatsink unit with some Artic silver if that doesnt work it's sent back to Hp for service or im going to buy a new heatsink unit.

RallyMaster,I'm pretty sure that heatsink is to large.
Is there anywhere you can buy the stock Amd Hsf i believe some came with heatpipes?

eBay might still have some. I'm sure they went pretty quick though. Can you post a pic of the motherboard? My friend's HP can fit a Freezer 64 Pro so I'm pretty sure it isn't an issue.
