Strange thread made by someone with an even weirder name. ;)
I guess you already know that the 3600+ X2 was one of the best overclockers from AMD. It could touch 3 ghz from the default speed of 1,9 ghz, so a 1.1 ghz overclock from an AMD chip it really is something.

second what the previous gentleman said. Although you need better cooler than stock to do close to 3.

mine's running pretty solid at 9.5 x 275 on a tforce 550 with stock volts. i've had it at 2.8 in the past, it ran fine in general, but IIRC it would crash every so often when i had like f@h going on both cores for a long time. then again, i really never tried to fine tune the overclock, as i am pretty content with 2.6ghz. plus my ram is crap for overclocking, but whatever.

EDIT:

Oh yeah I'm using an Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro, and I'm in Texas. It gets pretty warm in my room.

Mine was stable @ 2.8GHz using an ACF 64 Pro and a Biostar tForce 550 SE. If you are looking at an X2 3600+, make sure you get the Brisbane model (65nm/1.9GHz/2x512KB), not the 90nm model (2.0GHz/2x256KB).

Oh, exactly. The 90nm model was quite bad at overclocking ( topping 2,6 ghz) and crippled by the 2x256 kb of level 2 cache. It was more like a dual core sempron if you like. ;)

Don't tell me you're planning to get 3Ghz on that M2N-E. Both you and I know that the M2N-E sucks...;)

AnandTech was able to clock one of the Brisbane AND Windsor CPU's up to 3Ghz. You just have to search for the article. The newer Athlon X2 CPUs are pretty decent overclockers.

The 90nm model is only socket 939, not AM2. They were only $48 at newegg at a time when dual cores were much more expensive. The 256K x 2 L2 cache did not suffer the same performance hit as a single core Sempron with 256K x 1.

I have a couple overclocked E2180 systems, as well as a socket 939 3600+ which I got with a Biostar M9 board ($99 shipped) that easily overclocked from 2.0GHz to 2.6GHz at 1.41v. It is still a decently powerful system, no Q6600 of course, but not as far behind a 3.0GHz+ C2D's as most people would like to think.

I would get the Brisbane 4200+ at newegg for $47.99 free shipping. An 11 multiplier should make it fairly easy to hit 3.0Ghz, which most of the newer 65nm Brisbanes seem to have a good shot at.

No, there was a 90 nm 3600+ 2 ghz and 2X256kb level 2 cache model for soket AM2.
They are not produced anymore, but you can still buy them from places like Romania  :

It's just a 3800+ X2 with half the level 2 cache.
