Not gonna help their sales because only people who build their own computers buy processors, and these same people obviously know about C2D. I doubt OEM systems will drop in price.

Is that so? That X2 3600+ will look mighty-tempting at that price. Also, OEMs will ceirtainly love more price drops.

AMD did increase their market share in 2006 ( desktop : 29.1%, up from 26.6%). Purely because of price cuts I assume.

If they would only bring down their FX-60 so I could get it over with and buy it finally.

Starting to get to that point they should be. This should be an ocers dream. Are there any cheap AM2 boards (sub 100 and around 75 bucks) that can take this thing to 2.8-3ghz? You would need 311-333fsb for that....

I still think I would be more inclined to gte the fryes special on the E4300 and shitcan the POS mobo for 149 bucks. Then OC that to levels I knw would beat the 3600+.....

Overall how much better has AMD OCs got since the 65nm process has arrived. I have not heard of mass sightings of 3ghz. Plus the quads are coming in at much lower speeds as well and I am wondering what the issue is. We all know Intel had leakage issues at 65nm so it could be conceivable that is what AMD is facing as well....hence no architecture and ramp speeds back down like iNtel and C2D architecture.

All this price dropping should make room for the Barcelona chips when the arrive...

Wonder what this will do to retail prices?

If you browse Hot Deals, you know you can already pick up a new X2 3800+ AM2 for $87 plus shipping.

Maybe Fry's will start releasing X2 3600+/motherboard combos at the $100 mark.

I think that there aren't as many enthusiasts trying to OC the 65nm chips as most of them switched to C2D. It usually takes AMD a few batches on a new process to start showing clockspeed gains anyway.

$113 for an X2 3800+ EE is pretty sweet...still, I don't want to go AM2.

Biostar Tforce6100-AM2 330MHz HTT stable ~$75
Good: cheap, stable, overclocks nicely
Bad: barely any vDIMM, some memory incompatibilities (what doesn't with DDR2?)

Abit NF-M2 Nview 360+MHz HTT stable ~$92
Good: stable, overclocks nicely, Firewire, DVI, SPDIF, heatpipe Northbridge cooler
Bad: costs more

Biostar Tforce550 ~$75?
Most people report only around 270MHz HTT, which is what mine hit. However, one guy reported over 300MHz HTT (around 320-330?) and he said that there was a "trick" to it involving certain BIOS settings and stepping up gradually.

I've only seen one report of the Brisbane x2 3600+ overclock, and that one claimed 3.1GHz with some vcore. Of course supposedly those chips have looser latencies in the cache, so clock for clock is a hair less performance than the 90nm cores.

Still, for the cost of a Core 2 Duo CPU alone, can get a 3600+ with the better Abit board... well, until Intel's next price cut. Imagine a $300 combo with AMD dual core at 3GHz, motherboard and 2GB DDR2 RAM!!! Now that's value.

It's kind of sad that half that budget would be burned off in RAM, though...

I picked up the 3600 brisbane / Tforce550 combo at Newegg..

I'm doing 296 HTT .. ( 2.8g ) 1.4v ..

I've managed to play around at 316 ( 3g ) for a while but it wasn't stable ..
I really haven't had much time to play with it, but I think there is more there ..
The BIOSTAR BIOS is loaded with features that I have yet to figure out ..
Trying to get a feel for what the actual voltages are vs what is being reported..
