Anyone know of a good comparison review of the GTX vs GTS 640?
Considering Im running at 16x12 max with an amd 3500, would a gtx be a waste of money? Would the gts 640 give me the same performance. Im trying to justify the extra cost of the gtx. or not....hehe.

At 16x12 you're only going to be future-proofing by going with the GTX. The GTX still maintains significant frame rate (at least 20%, but oftentimes more) increases over the GTS at every resolution or IQ setting, its just not going to be that tangible at 16x12 in most current games (unless you can distinguish 100+ FPS w/out a benchmark).

There's a bunch of good comparisons including a few that clock the cards the same. They're older reviews and I believe AT has at least one review where they compare the two. Just click on Video and scroll back to November/December.

Read this article:
http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/nvidia_geforce_8800_gtx_gts_overclocking/

There's a big performance difference between the gts and the gtx, and not even an overclocked gts can match a stock gtx in most scenarios. However, you do have to draw the line somewhere if money matters, and I would recommend getting the 640mb gts, because if some game comes along that's unlayable on an overclocked gts, chances are you won't be too happy with how it runs on the gtx either.

I agree with this, and have been following those Firingsquad articles. Even though I am able to overclock the snot out of my GTS, it will never be a GTX. But, for me, it's a money issue, and it's also why I run a C2D6400 and not a 6800. A little overclocking can go a long way to even out the performance differences, while saving a lot of cash.

15-20% is a rather low figure. The X1900XT in many games is way, way faster than the X1800. Really depends on how shader intensive the game is.

Hey guys, I am building my computer right now and I am at a point where I can't decide what video card to get.

Since I have a 24 inch monitor, I'll be running my games at 1920x1200 resolution. The games that I am considering to play now is WOW:BC, and Battlefield 2142. I have been out of the loop for a while b/c i switched to mac.

I was considering to get 512mb version of Radeon 1950, but then the 8800GTS 320mb came out. I've done some research and it seems that the 8800GTS 320mb has trouble running games at high resolution. Since the price range seemed to be similar, which one do you guys recommend?

TIA

System Spec as of now.

E4300
Gigabyte DS3
OCZ Platinum 2GB DDR2 800
2405 Dell monitor
76GB Raptor

Based on the games you listed, the GTS seems your best bet and it's cheaper.

Thanks for the advice. I also agree that GTS 320mb will be best for the money. I hope they will update the driver to improve the GTS (320mb) 's ability to run games at higher resolution with AA. I will pick one up from Newegg or Frys in a few days.

:)
