I noticed that too...I've been wanting to get this card for the past month or two now, just been waiting for the funds to get my system together, and now that I was ready to buy it, newegg took it away, then they put it back, and now it's gone again :|...I'm debating whether I should wait for it to come back in stock (no ETA as of right now), or just get another card...finding this card for around this price is pretty tough right now

You can buy the GeCube 512MB version for $190AR ($195 - $5 rebate) - Here

Though at those prices, I might just splurg and get the eVGA 8800GTS 320 for ~$250. In dx9, the 8800GTS beats the x1950xt hands down. And while the extra ram might help, I don't think it would overcome the performance difference.

I don't know if it's okay for me to post this but I accidentally bought two X1900XT 512MB w/ VF900-Cu's - one off a forum member, one off eBay - so the eBay one will be going up for sale once I receive it. I'll post another shameless plug in this thread if that happens since it seems like some of you might be interested in that.

If you read the reviews for that card at Newegg, people are saying that the RAM speed is below the x1950xt stock speed for the RAM and that it's really akin to a 1950 Pro with a faster core. It might be possible to overclock the RAM up to x1950xt stock speed, but still, you have to wonder why GeCube would lower the clock speed like that. Of course, as mentioned, once you get to the $200 price range, you're treading too close to 8800 GTS territory.

A great point Whipper - which is why I'm trying to wrangle an x1950xt (preferably sapphire) for around $150 or less.

ok, I just read the review from buyer's remorse at newegg. ati cards automatically enable 2d/3d clock switching. The card runs at 500/594 unless you're in 3d mode or you have 2d/3d switching disabled in CCC/atitool/etc. I always enable 2d/3d switching on mine b/c it runs 10-12c cooler at the lower clocks at idle. It's a great feature but many people don't understand it, that's all. I have it oc'd to 668/936 when in 3d mode.

Thanks for filling us in, Bryan. I had no idea the cards would do that. It sounds like a great feature that will also help to keep the case cooler.

For the cost of that card, $205 with shipping and a $5 rebate that probably isn't worth the effort to send it in, I think I'd stretch for $60 more and get the EVGA 8800 GTS for $266 after shipping and a $20 MIR.

oh, yes. without a doubt the 8800 gts 320 is worth a lot more than $60 more than a freakin' 512 mb x1950xt! I only got mine b/c it was more than $100 diff in price at the time.

Found one on Craigslist that has that huge Thermalright cooler on it for 160 - let's see what happens this time.

You guys should know better than trusting reviews on newegg. The 1950xt does have higher clocked memory, but the difference in memory clocks does not have a huge impact on performance, and it only helps overcome the performance drop from having half the memory of a 512mb card. The 1900xt and 1950xt perform very close to each other due to having the same core, and both would blow away any 1950pro.

I would expect the old X1900XT to be faster actually. Various benchmarks have shown the additional memory to result in anywhere between 5-30% of a performance boost depending on the game, while the faster memory speed rarely does more than 4% or so.
