X1950XT crossfire

I'm 90% sure it's the exact same chip as the X1950XTX and needs a Mastercard+dongle. You might be able to software crossfire it, but I wouldn't bother then.

"masking tape/super glue to xfire 2 x1950xt's?"
LOL, I like that... my mobo is x-fire supported by the way, Bryan helping me out on this b4 I start spending x-mas money, lol

pretty sure it doesn't need a master card b/c I had a discussion about this a few months ago with somebody who had 2 1950 pros in xfire. iirc he just used software to xfire, too.

found this on wikipedia.

With the release of the Radeon X1950 Pro (RV570 GPU), ATI has revised CrossFire's connection infrastructure to further eliminate the need for past Y-dongle/Master card and slave card configurations for CrossFire to operate. ATI's CrossFire connector is now a ribbon like connector attached to the top of each graphics adapter, similar to nVidia's SLi bridges, but different in physical and logical natures.[2]

here's the entire article:

sorry scorpio, looks like you'll need an xfire connector ribbon at least.

The X1950 Pro was the first Radeon not to require a Mastercard as the chip it uses has the compositing engine integrated. As I mentioned previously, I am pretty sure that the X1950XT uses the same chip as the X1950XTX, which still requires a MC(it came out a little before the X1950Pro IIRC).

The last time I saw software crossfire benchies, it looked like it took enough of a performance hit on higher-end cards that it probably wasn't worth it as an upgrade.

IIRC, the GPU on the X1950XTX(and I'm assuming X1950XT) was just a newer stepping(R580?+) of the X1900 series GPU.

I'm gonna see this coming weekend what GPU is in these badboys... gonna slap on a Zalman VF900 on Bryan's old card and see if these can x-fire together without the external dongles... I'll keep u'all in the loop, pretty sure it won't, but hey, lol.

1950Pro is not the same chip as XT. Despite the XTs not supporting crossfire without Master card,
they can work in crossfire through the drivers. ATI enabled software crossfire around catalyst 6.10.
The X1900XTs/X1950XTs (and XTX variants) are the only cards that I know of that support software
crossfire.
