X1950XT and X1900XT in crossfire? Can you mix?

I thought for sure you could not mix the ATI X1900 series with the X1950 series for crossfire yet I am being told you can. Is this true? I currently have on one of my systems a ATI X1900XT and wanted to add Crossfire. However finding an ATI X1900XT Crossfire master card is hard and every expesive.

However I have come accross many X1950 Crossfire main cards but I thought you could not mix. My local vendors is swearing up and down that they will in Crossfire and in fact would work well with an X1900XTX. Anyhow not sure if he just wants to sell cards but would love to know if this is true,

It's true. You can use an X1950 Crossfire with the X1900 series.

Yep it works, no problem, of course it will only run as fast as the slowest card.

It works because they are more or less the same card with faster RAM. It's the same GPU for all intents and purposes.
