X1950Pro vs X1950 XT ?

Priced about the same ?

Man ... my local store has a both, the 1950 Pro is $199.99 CAN, and the X1950XT is $499.99 CAN, a $300 difference without taxes. I hope they would be priced about the same, but it ain't the case, well ... at least not locally.

X1950XT kicks the living crap out of 7900GTO but battles with 7900GTX
X1950pro kicks the living crap out of 7900GT but battles with 7950GT

Wouldn't "competes" be a better word? 😛

The X1950XT and the X1950PRO often outperforms the 7900GTX and 7950GT. For the little difference in price you should go straight to the X1950XT without thinking it twice!! In not CPU limited scenarios, the performance boost in average can be as high as 35%, sometimes higher, sometimes lower.

I have the X1950 Pro and it takes everything I have thrown at it.

I am sure the XT is faster, but for the money the Pro is a real bargain considering it has 90% the performance an XT has.

I purchased my card for $175.00 USD a couple months ago.

Considering that the X1950XT has 33% more pixel pipelines and 25% more pixel shaders, and 20% higher clocks, in CPU limited situation, the performance increase is minimal. Where the X1950XT shines is in high resolutions and lots of Anti Aliasing, and the difference can be between 20% and 30%, not bad, but for the price difference probably is up to the buyer and matter of tastes.

😀

i have never saw a 7900GTO's 'crap' get "kicked" ...

The X1950 Pro is a crippled (by 25%) X1950 XT. The X1950 XT is a good deal faster but for those prices, it's not worth it (should be more like $200 US).

Traditionally, the 7900GT is about the same speed as the X1950 Pro and the 7900GTX about as fast as the X1900XTX.

However, ATI's shader-heavy architecture kicks nVidia's ass in the newest games like Need for Speed: Carbon. nVidia's cards use a more traditional architecture with an equal number of pixel shaders and TMU's while ATi uses the same amount of TMU's as the X800/6800 series but with a crapload more pixel shaders due to its prediction that future games would be a lot more shader-intensive. They were right. In this case, even the lowly X1950 Pro can often perform at the same level as the beastly 7900GTX.
