x1950pro pci-e smartgart?

I upgraded to a x1950pro pci-e and the catalyst 6.11 drivers earlier this week. (Old card was unlocked a x800gto2 w/6.7 drivers) Each time I boot, I now get a message that SmartGart (which I thought applied to AGP cards only) is determining the capabilities of the video card. This takes about 2 minutes to complete.

I had to uninstall/reinstall the 6.11 driver twice to get it to working. The card seems to be functioning properly in games and ATI Overdrive reached 621core/732mem. CCC seems flakier than usual and I get a lot of blink-outs when making adjustments. CCC displays inappropriate resoution choices for my second monitor (analog LCD, native 1280x1024) but Windows recognizes its supported resoutions just fine.

Anyone else have these problems or a suggestion to correct them? Should I downgrade to another catalyst version; if so, which version?
 
The SmartGart ( determining the card capabilities ) reminds me of situations where windows have the VGAs HW Acceleration lower than Full.

Had no problems at all when using Catalyst v6.11 [ unless it's a card related issue, haven't used a X1950Pro yet ].
 
always let smartgart run the first time you install new drivers. Then I go into the settings and disable it.

Start=> Run=> services.msc

Find the service named "ATi Smart", right click on it, select Properties.
On the startup type drop-down menu select Disabled.
Apply & close the Services window.

It won't run from the next Windows bootup 🙂

 
I couldn't figure out how to disable it, so I followed the steps from ATI's PDF on SmartGART. SmartGART is only installed when the ATI installer is used.

+ Uninstall the video drivers via control panel
+ Reboot
+ When the new hardware wizard detects the card, allow it to install the drivers from the folder (typically c:\ati\support\6-11...\driver).
