Hi guys...Now I have built too many pc's to remember and a graphic card install is too easy, however after installing new card, 3d mark 05 locked up at the flying boat, okay so had to hard reset. Booted up fine, dismissed the lockup and thought i'd try half life lost coast, started up, changed settings to 1680x1050, hdr full and 4 x aa, guess what, lock-up, couldnt get back to desktop, so reset again, booted up and this time, the usb mouse wasnt working and display back to 8x6, tried the usual re-install etc, however this time the install leave the explaination mark for the card in device manager.

So far, have flashed BIOS from F5>F10, lastest chipset drivers installed, even tried older drivers but the explaination mark always says driver not loaded corrupt blah blah.....

So, I had used driver cleaner etc, I just dont know what to try next...

Damit, this is my 1st ATI card and unless this gets sorted, will be the damn last....

Help me please somebody......

Unbelievable, I always thought ATI made crap drivers and this just confirmed it....Looks like a clean install in needed, I just cant get the drivers installed properly

I had to do a clean install when I upgraded from my BFG 7800GS OC to a Sapphire X1950Pro 512mb AGP, nothing I did would get it stable with my old install that my 7800GS had lived happily with for so many months.

While it isn't always the most ideal way to solve a problem...go with a clean install, less problems in the end.

i didn't :p

same upgrade ... i used Driver Cleaner Pro ... and didn't have nvidia MB drivers to accidentally uninstall

sometimes it works fine and sometimes it doesn't ... i once had to do a complete fresh install of windows upgrading within the same ATi line

and you DO need MS .net framework 2.0 to run the ATi CCC

Hi guys, thanks for ideas, so now have clean install, yet system still very unstable, as soon as I stress card, ie: 3dmarks, 2nd or 3rd test the screen just goes black!!! The pc is still running in the background. The PSU is TT460w 30a on the pcie rail!. I have 2 HDD's, 2 optical, sound blaster and this x1950, the cpu is 130n newcastle, i should have heaps of power!

Any ideas, this is frustrating, new card and i cant do anything with it!

Bollocks, its going black in 2d now, and 1 BSOD with infinite loop!!

I cant believe the quality of hardware nowadays, they must not test these things before packaging....

Turn Fast Writes off, and if that doesn't fix it, reduce the AGP speed to 4x. Sometimes can be chipset incompatability at the selected speed and with Fast Writes off and AGP4x solved it in many circunstances and the Performance impact if minimal if it exists, with such huge frame buffer, pretty much nothing will be swapped to the system's RAM. Also try to update your chipset driver.

Just reseated card, turned off fast writes, 4x agp bus, still locking in 3dmarks, however plays COD2 native max setting smooth as?!

I guess it could be my old 3dmark program?

D/L 06!

now that you mention it...I do get from time to time a similar problem occuring with the 3Dmark and PCMark series, I don't think it's video card specific but I found that installing the latest patch will often correct the problem.

You shouldn't have to disable anything on your mobo to get a X1950pro to work...your board is similar to my old GA-K8NS PRO and it works fine with my Sapphire.

However like I said earlier...while it isn't really ideal, a clean format would most likely correct any problems you are having.

Got my X1950Pro installed yesterday. Running like a champ so far. Uninstalled my old ATi drivers, ran DCPro, changed cards and installed Catalyst 7.4 after booting up. I don't have 3DMark though...never really cared about benchmarking. :)

Edit: Been playing some LOTRO and CoH without and problems thus far.

Hi guys, to explain further, it doesnt seem to be locking up now, but instead the screen just goes black and after about 3min the monitor goes to sleep, its like the card is no longer sending any output!!

Now does this mean something is wrong with the card, should I send it back for replacement?

Monitor goes to sleep? hmmm check with Power options under Control and Setting and I think X1950 Pro is a 8X not 4X. You might want to check power management under computer BIOS.

Good luck

Hi Rotie, ta for reply, getting a bit desperate here. I knocked the bus down and took off fast write as the card appeared to lock on HL2 LC sometimes, also opened the aperture to 512mb, though still know difference.

With the lcd panel going to sleep, I mean the card appears to now stop sending signal to the lcd when stressed, so could this be a config issue or dud card?

sounds like something is really wrong ...

if i couldn't try it in another rig, i'd start the RMA process

maybe go to the card's Mfg's forum to see if others have your issue ;)
