i dont

the card will probably have 8 pipelines (though the definition of a pipe probably doesnt come close to describing what actually happens in a GPUs rendering process but i guess its a easily understandable analogy), but as you should know the R580 GPU that is the base of the X1900 and X1950 series sports 3 pixel shaders per pipe.

8 x 3 = 24

the X1900GT has 36 pixel shader pipelines, 12 physical pipes with 3 pixel shaders in each.

the X1900XT, XTX and the X1950's all sport 48 shaders. thats why these cards are so good.

though i dont think it always works well, the X1600 uses the same idea, its got 4 pipes for a total of 12 pixel shaders but its really not very good, the 7600 is the better card. the X1600 may have the same number of PS's as the 7600's but its only got 4 TMU's/render pipelines...which is pretty naff by todays standards, where as i think the 7600s have 12. so it will be interesting to see where this thing actually lies in terms of performance.

if its actually real, i think it'll probably give the 7600GT's a run for their money, and probably the older Nvidia top end card the 7800GT.

ok so it appears to be based on the RV570 core, not the R580, my mistake.

but the RV570 is the replacement core for the RV530 found in the X1600. that core still features 3 pixel shaders per pipe, so i wouldnt be suprised to see than the 570 does as well.

even better is its produced on the 80nm fab process, so hopefully this card will be an overclockers dream

I could be wrong, but im pretty sure I read somewhere before ( ill see if I can dig it up again ) that the 7950 GT was being released to fight the X1950 Pro and vice versa. Is it possible that this card could have 12 physical pipes ? Or even 16 ? Because if it don't, there is no way it can take on the 7950 GT.

Edit: This is the slide released a while back http://img.presence-pc.com/news/a/t/ati_x1950pro_infos_resized.jpg

Edit 2 : Is it possible they got it mixed up with this card ? http://img.presence-pc.com/news/a/t/ati_radeon_x1650xt_slide_resized.jpg

Edit 3: I also found this slide featuring 12 physical pipes http://www.ixbt.com/short/images/2_732.jpg

Edtt 4: Just found this, this is interesting....http://tech.sina.com.cn/h/2006-08-18/101072182.shtml

INQ have a little tid bit on the RV570 GPU thats mentioned in the Article about the X1950pro. its got 256bit mem interface so im unsure wether that would appear on a mid rannge card,

but that article doesnt mention the X1950pro..... just that the RV570 is the replacement for the RV530.

i think the X1650XT will have the same core, just maybe a 128bit memory bus? and the X1950pro gets 256bit? and it'll sit somewhere between the X1800 and the X1900GT.

btw most of your links dont work for me, dont know why

It sucks that they're still rolling out new cards from this generation as late as October. Doesn't look good for the next gen any time soon.

The link for Edit 4 has 1950 series benchmarks for 05 and 06. It states that the 1950 Pro acheived 9558 3Dmarks in 05 and 5320 in 3DMark 06.....anyone else having problems clicking the links ?

Here are the links from photobucket....

o so it should overclock a lil better maybe 50-100 on the core right?

why didnt they shrink the x1950's also.

Yea, it kinda does seem like a overclocked 1900GT now that I think about it. Hmmmm.....

If it's got 8 pipelines / 24 pixel shader pipes, I don't see it being that great of a performer. It's got enough memory bandwidth, but it's like a castrated X1900GT (itself a castrated X1900XT). Maybe in Crossfire mode (dongle-less!), it will perform (slightly) better than an X1900XTX, but seeing as it appears to be an X1900XT divided by two, I don't see it being that great.

-------------

What would make this card a very good card for ATI, is if it is actually designed with 8 pipes on 80nm. Then, it would have a die size about 1/3 of the X1900 series, meaning very cheap manufacturing costs and it should drop well below $200 quickly... Furthermore, if it's got such a small die and is on 80nm, it should run pretty cool, meaning (hopefully) quiet operation and low power dissipation.

I thought the r560 (aka the x1650xt ) was just a 12PS+4TU x1600xt with a slight speed bump? And if the x1950pro is a 36PS+12TU x1900gt replacement, then what about a 24PS+8TU card? Ati needs something like that to beat the 7600gt, because the x1600xt just cant do it...
