Neither would be up to the task especially with AA. The 1950Pro should beat both the 7900GT stock and 1900GT at stock, but it probably won't be good enough either.

My 1900xtx 512 struggles with FEAR and COD2 at 1280x960/1024 MAX with 4x AA. Removing AA helps a lot but I don't like doing that. It is not that FEAR doesn't give me good FPS at 12x9 4x AA, I often get 100+FPS but then I often get 30s and 40s and sometimes even 20s. During fights and in many places when I am alone, I get severe performance hits.

Ummm...yea...

Anyway, I have 2 7900GT's in SLI (look at sig) and run at 1680x1050. I do kinda OC them a lot ;)

May be some second hand 7900GT in FS/FT might be something else to look at.
They're great OCer's (as apparent by my sig)

The 7900GT and X1950 Pro do seem even in some of the benchmarks I've seen.
I'd probably have to lean towards the X1950 Pro though. Or the one apoppin recommended.
Since performance is pretty much on par the IQ of the ATI card has to win here.

P.S.
Just don't listen to akshayt. He has no idea what he's talking about. (just take my word for it, or look at his threads).
And I'm sorry man, just based on your history here. I kinda don't think anything is gonna heal that one ;)

If they are both the same price, go for the 7900GT because once overclocked (should be easy to clock to 7950GT levels) will be consistently faster than the x1950pro but not by a huge margin.

They are both good cards but at this point I'd say wait - and get a 8800GTS when it gets cheaper.

i definitely agree with him. a 7900GT is an excellent card, and in the rig in my sig, i can run CoD2 at 1920x1080 with everything cranked and 4xAA getting 40fps. granted, its volt-modded so i have high overclocks on it right now...

the X1950Pro isnt a slouch by any means though...

but an 8800GTS is a good buy whenever it starts to get cheaper.

i'd get the x1950 pro. Those are pretty overclockable and at stock speeds a match for the 7900 gt.All the reviews where they overclocked the card shows it going to 630 core easy.

I'm not too interested in overclocking anything right away :p so I'll just consider stock performance. I also would rather buy new than used- just personal preference :) Right now I can get the X1950 for about $55 cheaper, so I guess that can be taken into consideration. I play Half Life 2 and CS: Source mainly, and I'm going to be getting Rainbow Six: Las Vegas soon. And, to apoppin- unfortunately I can't order from newegg since they don't ship to Canada. Thanks alot for everyone's help so far, please keep it coming!

:Q

pick the pro for price-performance ;)

i have one :)

agp ... nice card ... but then my resolutions are less ... i.e. 11x8
runs *everything* near max setting ... occasionally even AA/AF and HDR on the newer games.
