both PCI-Express cards.

the X1950 Pro (i think Asus calls it the EAX 1950 Pro), Sharky had a review
http://www.sharkyextreme.com/hardware/videocards/article.php/3658926

and it's running about $175.

the eVGA 8600 GTS
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130084

$200.

in a review at xBit

the 1950 is faster - i think.

i guess i was expecting a little more from the 8600 series cards.

oh well, they're DX10 compatible and the prices can come down.

The 8600GTS is pretty terrible value for money. Get an X1950Pro instead, or stretch to an 8800GTS if possible.

Of course, we don't know if 8600GTS can handle DX10 games well, and whether any of them are coming in reasonable period, before both cards become obsolete...

The X1950 Pro can be had for less than $175, if you are not picky about brand.

I have the Asus X1950 Pro (256MB) and it's a superb card. I haven't had any game bring my system to a crawl yet. I get 50+ fps in every game I play. Some games like CS:S I get over 100 fps.
