I have the X1900XTX with FC-ZV9
and i idle with fan at 100% at 43c and thats in 2d mode, in 3d mode at 100% load 80c, and i used AS5, i don see why its running so hot, no ocing done with it at all, this cooler was supposed to be good, and its not doing as good as i thought, i have also reseated it, no difference, if anyone could help me out in anyway, maybe ask an obvivous question to see if i skipped something, or i i am just over looking something, i would highly apprecaite it.

Thanks alot,
Brock

Did you check the flatness of the heatsink? It is possible the block is curved and isn't making good contact with the gpu. When you re-sat the heatsink did you check to see if the AS5 spread evenly on the die?

I tried the vf900 with my x1900xt and it also got up to mid 80's under load. After trying out a bunch of aftermarket coolers I've finally got myself a thermalright hr-03 with a quiet 92mm fan and it blew all the other coolers away (no pun intended... :p). Just make sure you have enough space inside.

If you're on a budget then get the accelero x2, I got better results than the zalman with it and it's cheaper too.

Is the fan spinning? Is it actually hot to the touch? It could be wrong temp readings.

i dont think u know what you're talkin about...
my x1900xt idles at 37 and loads at 65 @ 682/747

OP: you must've installed it incorrectly, remove it, wipe it clean and dry with rubbing alcohol and reapply a rice-grain drop of AS5and spead it out with something similar to a credit card. then reattach the vf900 that u have

I also tried this cooler with my X1900XTX & it ran considerably hotter under load then it did with the stock cooler ... I had been able to run at Overdrive maximum overclocks at 78c load with the reference HS/Fan fixed at 75% but with the Zalman tempetures were exceeding 90c @ default XTX clocks & I started getting random lockups, so I switched back to the factory HS despite the noise. This result corresponds with two reviews I read about this HS/fan, unfortunately AFTER I bought it, plus if you do a search under cases & cooling a bunch of other people here on AT had the same experience. One thing thats entirely possible is that different cards produce different amounts of heat & you may have gotten lucky with a cool-running one, but I know I had mine mounted correctly & it didn't get the job done with my card in a Lian-Li full tower with good airflow.

In fairness, my idle temps were around 36-38c & were lower then the reference cooler plus even at 100% the Zalman is whisper-quiet, but I do think its in over its head with these cards unless you have somthing like a couple case fans blowing directly on the card.... for a 7900GT/GTX or a lower heat ATI card these are a great choice.

Happened with my VF-900 also. I had better temps with my stock cooler than I ever did with that thing, although it was quieter.
